Sen. Tom Cotton Blasts VP Harris as a “San Francisco Liberal who Cannot Keep this Country Safe”

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) recently criticized Vice President Kamala Harris during an appearance on CNN”s “State of the Union,” where he claimed she is a “San Francisco liberal who cannot keep this country safe.”  In light of President Joe Biden withdrawing from the race and endorsing Harris as the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential candidate, her record has come under increased scrutiny given the prospects of her leading the executive branch.

Cotton said during the interview, “Only a week into her presidential campaign and we see why she is a dangerous, liberal. I saw Kamala Harris up close for four years on the Senate Intelligence Committee. What the American people see this week is just a small sampling of what she would do to make America less safe and make the world more chaotic. Remember, she took credit for a lot of the worst decisions of the Biden administration she said, you were right there when they decided on the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. This is who Kamala Harris always has been. This is who she will be a San Francisco liberal who cannot keep this country safe.”

During another portion of the conversation, Tapper asked Cotton to opine on comments Trump had recently made to a crowd of Christian voters, where he had told them that if they would go out and vote in this election they “won’t have to vote anymore.”  Many on the left have claimed this is evidence Trump seeks to destroy Democracy.  However, conservatives have claimed it was simply a testament to the former president’s commitment to turning the country around.

Cotton said, “I think he’s obviously making a joke about how bad things have been under Joe Biden and how good they’ll be if we send President Trump back to the White House so we can turn the country around again. That’s what the American people know. For four years, things were good with President Trump. We had stable prices, a growing economy, peace and stability around the world.”

Cotton then turned to the Biden-Harris administration’s record.  “Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, everything has gone to hell, and it will be much worse under Kamala Harris, just look at her record. She wants to ban private health insurance. She wants to ban fossil fuel production. She wants to ban guns. She wants, even wants to ban plastic,” he said.

Anchor Jake Tapper interjected, claiming that Harris is not as hostile toward guns as Cotton was suggesting. The host said, “Not all guns, some kinds of guns.” Cotton fired back, “She wants to forcibly confiscate guns without even an act of Congress to do so. Kamala Harris is a dangerous liberal. She makes Joe Biden look competent and moderate by contrast.”

Harris’ vice presidential record and policy stances are now receiving substantial attention as there are legitimate prospects that she could lead the nation.  Conservatives have characterized Harris as a radical, progressive Democrat who would significantly depart from traditional American values if she were to wield her influence on society.
