Senator Rand Paul saved the day after he jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver on fellow Republican Senator Joni Ernst as she appeared to choke on food. Paul is being lauded as a hero in some circles, as the skills that he learned as a medical doctor were put on full display to stop a terrible scene from unfolding.
The news was later confirmed by Ernst herself to post about the event on X. She made sure to stay lighthearted about the matter, joking that she was choking on Democratic policies and not food as has been reported. That post has been seen by nearly one million people.
Ernst wrote, “Can’t help but choke on the woke policies Dems are forcing down our throats. Thanks, Dr. @RandPaul!” Others in the Senate, like Lindsey Graham, lauded Paul for his work in saving his fellow colleague. Graham exclaimed, “God bless Rand Paul. I never thought I’d say that.” Senator Mike Lee also joined the fray, saying, “Rand Paul = HERO. Not all heroes wear capes. Not all senators can quote Mises and Hayek — while saving lives!”
Rand Paul has also been busy, as his website explains, fighting for Fourth Amendment rights for folks in his home state of Kentucky. According to the press release, “The bill would ensure Americans cannot be subjected to government surveillance upon the order of the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) or Executive Order 12333.”
Speaking about the bill, Paul said, “No secret, unaccountable court should be allowed to authorize spying on American citizens. My Fourth Amendment Restoration and Protection Act would exempt Americans from the FISA process and ensure both constitutional rights and national security are protected.”
Rand Paul has also been battling against the Biden administration on their actions taken to limit the Firearms Export License. Paul signed on along with 45 other Senators to pen a letter to the Biden administration demanding answers for the pause of the FEL.
The letter reads, “according to a survey conducted by NSSF, the firearm and ammunition industry trade association, this decision would have a severe negative economic impact. As of today, the industry estimates a direct cost of at least $89 million associated with the 90 day pause and at least $238 million annually should the pause become permanent.”
While those two endeavors are sure to be seen as a good by folks on the right and make his constituents grateful for the work he is doing in DC, Paul took it one step further and and forced a vote that could have saved American taxpayers Billions of dollars.
Paul’s website explains, “Unless we change course, the debt will consume us. America’s future as a nation is not threatened from without but from within. Our mounting debt will ultimately force a day of reckoning. The Congressional Budget Office predicts that we will add an average of $2 trillion in debt every year for the next decade. Using Congressional Budget Office projections, the U.S. government will add over $5 billion to its debt pile every single day for the next ten years. We borrow over $176 million every hour, we borrow $3 million every minute, and we borrow $50,000 every second.”
