Actor John Capodice, known for roles in shows such as the hit TV show “Seinfeld” and Jim Carrey’s “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” passed away on December 30 at the age of 83. Capodice’s obituary explained that he was a veteran of the United States military who served in Korea before getting his start in the entertainment industry. A cause of death was not listed.
Capodice first began acting in the 1970s, when he earned his first role on the soap opera, Ryan’s Hope. He appeared on a variety of shows, such as “Law & Order,” “Murder She Wrote,” and “Murphy Brown,” but was perhaps more known for his time on “Seinfeld.” Capodice also landed the role of Sargeant Aguado in “Ace Ventura” as Carrey’s career was exploding.
“One doesn’t choose acting; it chooses you. I wish that I could be more specific, but after half a century of living this life, I’m still pursuing it,” Capodice famously said. Explaining that a career in acting is all about perseverance, he added, “Absolutely. Each time they tell you no, you pick yourself up from the ground and say yes. Never ever accept no. Remember, it’s not about rejection. The casting people are going a different way, and you’ll get the next one.”
The obituary listed by the Pizzi Funeral Home in New Jersey read, “John Capodice, 83, of Blauvelt, NY, formerly of Los Angeles, CA and Chicago, IL, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024.
