Things went less than well in Queens when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez during a town hall, with her speech on “environmental justice” developments being interrupted by hecklers there to sound off on the state of things at the border and with illegal immigrants in New York. Predictably, AOC was less than pleased and tried to rebut their claims and talk them down.
The video of the incident that emerged starts with AOC saying that there have been “a lot of environmental provisions to clean air in our schools” introduced, then saying, “and also different kinds of policy in the education space in 2020, the Cures Act . . . we started to see a lot of difference.”
That’s when one protester stood up and started sounding off on AOC and the Democratic Party’s attitude toward illegal immigrants. The protester disrupted the event and shouted, “All you care about is illegal aliens and their votes! You don’t care about your constituents!” Others shouted that she doesn’t care about her constituents, that the border should be secured, and about the New York debit card program.
AOC, for her part, tried to rebut what the protesters and hecklers were shouting about. She said, “This community, Astoria, Jackson Heights, also across the Bronx, clearly supported progressive immigration policy. Welcome policies. And that is why you all and forever grateful and that it was to the community for supporting my representation of our city across us.”
She continued, “Because we have seen, the, the voices that are immigrants in this country are very, very loud, like they’re very, very few. And we have to look around and realize how many of us are here in support of our neighbors and an acknowledgment and the fact that virtually almost all of us are descendants of immigrants or indigenous people or for employed people as well. And so I thank you all so much. Let’s move on.”

Commenting on one clip of the incident, a commenter said, “Those constituents are not wrong. She blocked the Amazon deal which would have brought thousands of jobs, and made a huge production visiting the border, but she doesn’t go into the neighborhood.”
In addition to facing backlash over the border situation, AOC was recently involved in a spat with the American-Israeli Political Action Committee, or AIPAC, over a tweet it posted in which it referred to Hamas terrorists as “rapist monsters” and attacked those in Congress who are calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Pushing back, she said, “It is appalling that AIPAC is targeting women members of Congress who have survived sexual assault with this horrific rhetoric. Each and every day, their role in US politics becomes a greater scandal. They are the NRA of foreign policy. Of course they don’t want a ceasefire.”
