Secret Service DEI Policies Investigated in Wake of Trump Assassination Attempt

Following the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump last month, the United States Secret Service has come under intense scrutiny over the egregious lapse in security that nearly claimed the life of a presidential candidate.  Recently, the Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF) launched an investigation into the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies within the agency that may have contributed to the incident.

According to the MSLF, the investigation seeks to determine the extent to which DEI played a role in the Secret Service’s hiring, retention, and promotion.  Many claim DEI elevates incompetence by lowering standards to prioritize equity over meritocracy.  Therefore, if critical roles in society, such as protecting the president of the United States, are filled with less qualified individuals, there could be severe consequences.

“USSS must be held accountable for its reckless and unlawful employment practices; a legal challenge will ensure that moving forward, only the most qualified individuals will be hired, retained, and promoted,” according to a statement from the MSLF.  After it became apparent that several female Secret Service agents were present during the attack, debate began as to whether females are cut out for such a role.

“There should not be any women in the Secret Service. These are supposed to be the very best, and none of the very best at this job are women.  If there’s a woman doing a job like this, it 100 percent means that a more qualified male was passed over,” conservative commentator Matt Walsh wrote on X following the assassination attempt.

Cristen Wohlgemuth, the president and CEO of MSLF, slammed former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s DEI-focused comments when she led the agency.  “Those comments speak to something deeper at the Secret Service — how much have Biden-Harris appointees let DEI culture fester at the agency?” Wohlgemuth said.  “And did that culture play a role in the massive security breach at the rally in Pennsylvania? DEI hiring policies are both illegal and dangerous, and must be challenged at every turn.”

Despite these concerns about female Secret Service agents, former President Trump expressed his gratitude for the bravery of the women who protected him during the failed assassination attempt. “Every one of them – there wasn’t one that was slow. A woman who was on my right, she was shielding me,” he said at a rally at St. Cloud, Minnesota, two weeks later. “Beautiful person – she was shielding me, everything she could. And she got crushed. And she got criticized by the fake news because she wasn’t tall enough.”

According to the MSLF’s website, “Mountain States Legal Foundation is a non-profit law firm, dedicated to restoring those rights enshrined in the Constitution, at zero legal fees to our clients. MSLF is focused on protecting property rights and economic liberty, defending the right to keep and bear arms, championing free speech and association, and upholding the principle of equal protection. From our headquarters in Colorado, we litigate crucial cases across the nation at every level—even all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States.”
