According to recent reports, a Secret Service counter-sniper has made a dire prediction that former President Donald Trump could face another attempt on his life as the election approaches. White House Correspondent from Real Clear Politics, Susan Crabtree, reported on an internal message in the Secret Service that exposed the lack of competency in the agency that, if unaddressed, could lead to more assassination attempts.
Crabtree posted on X, “A Secret Service counter sniper sent an email Monday night to the entire Uniformed Division (not agents) saying he will not stop speaking out until ‘5 high-level supervisors (1 down) are either fired or removed from their current positions.” The counter sniper also said the agency ‘SHOULD expect another assassination attempt’ before November and complained that he is no longer proud to be a USSS counter sniper after leadership failed the officers at the Trump rally in Butler on 7/13.”
The message emphasized the dire need for change within the Secret Service, where failures need to be held accountable. “‘This agency NEEDS to change,’ the sniper wrote in the email. ‘If not now, WHEN? ‘The NEXT assassination in 30 days?’ Sadly we have fallen short for YEARS. We just look good doing it. I have conveyed these thoughts to not only supervisors (to include the current Captain of CS, but those responsible for training us (SOTS/CS). Only to be brushed off as those with less experience somehow knew more than me,” Crabtree’s post continued.
The White House correspondent’s post concluded, “The team I was once proud to be a part of, is something I have to somehow hide as I move into my next career,” the counter sniper continued. “Who wants to hire a USSS CS guy who failed? That’s the public perception I’m not faced with. The USSS CS team is a stain I will never be able to cleanse.” He concluded with these two lines: “The motto of the USSS…CYA. And every supervisor is doing it right now.
In the wake of the assassination attempt against former President Trump, whose survival was so miraculous that many consider it divine providence, there has been scathing bipartisan criticism toward the Secret Service and how such a security failure occurred. Subsequently, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned from her position.
Upon Cheatle’s resignation, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued a press release that read, “The Oversight Committee’s hearing resulted in Director Cheatle’s resignation and there will be more accountability to come. The Secret Service has a no-fail mission yet it failed historically on Director Cheatle’s watch. At yesterday’s Oversight Committee hearing, Director Cheatle instilled no confidence that she has the ability to ensure the Secret Service can meet its protective mission.
Comer’s statement further blasted the “egregious” lapse in security protocol. “Egregious security failures leading up to and at the Butler, Pennsylvania campaign rally resulted in the assassination attempt of President Trump, the murder of an innocent victim, and harm to others in the crowd. While Director Cheatle’s resignation is a step toward accountability, we need a full review of how these security failures happened so that we can prevent them going forward. We will continue our oversight of the Secret Service in support of the House Task Force to deliver transparency, accountability, and solutions to ensure this never happens again,” he said.
