In a significant victory for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in McMahon v. State of New York, clearing the way for the Department of Education to fire hundreds of employees. This decision counteracts a lower court ruling that reinstated 1,400 laid-off workers.
For context, both President Trump and Education Secretary Linda McMahon have celebrated the ruling and promised to return control of public schools to the state level. However, Justice Sotomayor, an infamous activist, slammed the decision as “indefensible.”
In any case, President Trump reacted to the major victory by announcing, “The United States Supreme Court has handed a Major Victory to Parents and Students across the Country, by declaring the Trump Administration may proceed on returning the functions of the Department of Education BACK TO THE STATES.”
Echoing these remarks, Linda McMahon explained that ending the Department of Education will not defund public schools, as claimed by cynical DNC activists, but return accountability to the local level. She stated, “Closing the Department does not mean cutting off funds from those who depend on them – we will continue to support K-12 students, students with special needs, college student borrowers, and others who rely on essential programs.”
Concluding her remarks, she described how this would reduce inefficiencies and enable teachers to work more effectively. She declared, “As we return education to the states, this administration will continue to perform all statutory duties while empowering families and teachers by reducing education bureaucracy.”
Despite the positive reception from Trump and his allies, Justice Sotomayor, who wrote the dissenting opinion, whined, “When the Executive publicly announces its intent to break the law, and then executes on that promise, it is the Judiciary’s duty to check that lawlessness, not expedite it.”
As we reported, Education Secretary Linda McMahon has been a strong ally of the president and helped him to end the woke nonsense infecting our universities. Most recently, she made moves to ban divisive pro-Hamas protests at schools that accept federal funds.

Setting the scene, the Department of justice announced that millions of dollars in funding for woke ivy league institutions had be cancelled, saying, “The Department of Justice (DOJ)… announced the immediate cancellation of approximately $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University due to the school’s continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students. These cancellations represent the first round of action, and additional cancellations are expected to follow.”
Adding her opinion, Secretary McMahon criticised these far-left schools. She stated, The Department is deeply disappointed that Jewish students studying on elite U.S. campuses continue to fear for their safety amid the relentless antisemitic eruptions that have severely disrupted campus life for more than a year.”
Castigating the leadership at these woke schools, McMahon said that access to federal funds is contingent on following the law. She declared, “University leaders must do better. U.S. colleges and universities benefit from enormous public investments funded by U.S. taxpayers. That support is a privilege, and it is contingent on scrupulous adherence to federal anti-discrimination laws.”
