Things appear to be going quite less than well for Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), as the shutdown that he precipitated by blocking Senate Democrats from striking a spending deal with Republicans over spending that many see as utterly absurd is grinding on and failing to do anything positive for Democrats.
In fact, things are now going so terribly for Sen. Schumer that even far-left cable news media is beginning to turn on him and see his tactics as utterly buffoonish. Such was evident when The Daily Show host Jon Stewart roasted Sen. Schumer during his show monologue on Monday, October 6, comparing Schumer to “a human flat tire.”
What sparked Stewart’s ire was Sen. Schumer’s attempt to look very angry and serious by wildly raising and slamming his fists during a part of a press conference in which he blandly declared, “Democrats are adamant that we must protect the healthcare of the American people.” Stewart, mimicking the ridiculous movement, said, “Um, good points…Not crazy about this.”
Stewart wasn’t done. During the same press conference in which he raised and lowered his fists, Sen. Schumer tried making a joke that went over terribly, as it was utterly bland. Introducing it, Stewart said, “If you had stopped there, that would be great, but you’re gonna keep talking aren’t you?”
He then rolled the footage of Schumer attempting the joke, with the elderly senator saying, “New data came out today from KFF, and that is not Kentucky Fried French Fries. KFF.” Giggling to himself as he turned to Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) as he did so, Schumer added, “That’d be Kentucky French Fries, hm?”
Stewart exploded over the terrible joke, shouting about the senator’s poor judgment in making the joke and questioning what sort of milquetoast audience it was even meant for, shouting, “Who is that joke even for? Six-year-olds who watch C-SPAN? What the f— are you doing?!”
Continuing, Stewart got to his bit roasting Schumer yet further, saying, ” Chuck Schumer is a human flat tire. You just can’t — [Schumer impression] ‘Kentucky Fried French Fry.’ Look at Klobuchar! Poor Klobuchar. That is the face of someone who talked to their dad, who said, ‘Just please don’t do your Indian accent in the restaurant. That’s all I’m asking.”

Watch Stewart here:
President Trump, for his part, has kept up the heat on Sen. Schumer during the shutdown struggle by framing it as Schumer trying to foist taxpayer funding for illegal alien healthcare on the American people, which he and Republicans find unacceptable and will not support.
For example, during a Monday press conference, the president said, “We want great healthcare for people. We don’t want to give the money away to other people that come pouring into our country … we have a negotiation going on right now with the Democrats that could lead to very good things. I’m talking about with regard to healthcare.”
Schumer has, falsely, continued insisting that Trump’s point isn’t true, though Republicans have brought a bevy of evidence showing that the president is correct, in terms of how things will play out. But freaking out on X over Trump’s Monday claim, Schumer freaked out and wrote, “THIS ISN’T TRUE. For months, Democrats have been demanding Trump and Republicans come to the table and work with us to deliver lower costs and better healthcare for the American people. If Republicans are finally ready to sit down and get something done on health care for American families, Democrats will be there—ready to make it happen.”
