Speaking on Tuesday, July 2, President Joe Biden made yet another one of his infamous gaffes, again reading the instructions off of the teleprompter while trying to give a speech. This speech took place in the D.C. Emergency Operations Center and was on “extreme weather,” which President Biden and his administration were framing as a major threat.
Introducing the “extreme weather” topic, which was introduced in the context of the hurricane headed toward Jamaica, President Joe Biden said, “Well, thanks, everybody, for being here — and particularly you for hosting us, Mayor. Look, we’re here to talk about extreme weather. We’re here to talk about a briefing my — from my team on what we’re going to face this summer. And it’s going to be significant.”
Continuing, he said, “And, by the way, you’ve got the guy running this show doing the elevator too. I get in the elev- — he’s operating the elevator. He does it all, man. I tell you what. So, we — we’re going to face a tough summer, but we’ve taken significant steps to ameliorate the concerns. That’s what we want to talk about, so why don’t we get started. Why don’t we get the meeting underway.”
President Biden then later said, during the speech itself, “More people die from extreme heat than floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes combined.” He continued, “These climate fueled extreme weather events don’t just affect people’s lives. They also cost money. They hurt the economy, and they have a significant negative psychological effect on people.”
That was around the time when he made the unfortunate and awkward gaffe, saying, “Say that again” when describing the relative number of deaths from “extreme heat” and other weather events like floods and hurricanes. Watch the gaffe here:
This was the second time in as many days that Biden made such a gaffe. He did so the day before when giving a short speech on the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling. The gaffe came when, speaking about the matter, went on the attack. He said, in part, “This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America. Each, each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States. [With] today’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity, that fundamentally changed for all practical purposes.”
He also said, “The presidency is the most powerful office in the world. It’s an office that not only tests your judgment; perhaps even more importantly, it’s an office that can test your character. Because you not only face moments where you need the courage to exercise the full power of the presidency. You also face moments where you need the wisdom to respect the limits of the power of the office of the presidency.”
Concluding his remarks, President Biden said, “I dissent.” But he also made one of his characteristic gaffes and appeared to read off of the instructions on the teleprompter, saying, “End of quote. Watch President Biden’s gaffe here:
