When former President Donald Trump visited the Fire Department of New York fire station on Thursday, May 2, bringing the firefighters pizza, they didn’t just cheer him, though they did that. They also begged him for help, calling on him to “save” them, presumably from President Joe Biden’s policies and the current state of New York City.
As background, former President Trump has remained stuck in New York City for most of each week in recent weeks thanks to Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s case against him, presided over by Judge Merchan. DA Bragg alleges that former President Trump mischaracterized a payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels, one which Trump recorded as a legal expense for his tax records but which DA Bragg alleges was really a hush money payment and should have been recorded as such.
While dealing with the case, Trump has made the most of the opportunity, poking around New York City in a way that draws media attention to himself and his campaign, and makes him look good. He did this, for example, when he visited a New York City bodega, which was the scene of an altercation between the clerk and a criminal, and called for law and order.
Such is what he did again on Thursday, after spending a long, full day in court, visiting a fire station and delivering pizza to the firefighters. He mosied around the fire station and shook hands with the firefighters and officials, with one of them saying, “Sir, save us, please.” Others than echoed that plea for help from Trump.
The fire department, speaking to Fox News about the visit, said that it appreciated the visit and indeed appreciates all support regardless of the political affiliation of the person involved. It said, “We appreciate whoever supports our members at the FDNY, no matter their political affiliation.”
This was not Trump’s first visit to this fire station. He did so in 2021 as well, popping in and honoring officers on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. The station is near Trump Tower, which is likely why he has visited it multiple times.

Earlier this spring, the New York City Fire Department’s fire commissioner was booed and heckled by protestors during the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, with the protesters chanting in favor of Trump and against the liberal commissioner. That incident came just a week after commissioner Lara Kavanaugh vowed to hunt down New York firefighters who booed Letitia James and shouted “Trump” chants during a ceremony.
“You suck,” one protester yelled at the New York City Fire Department commissioner (FDNY) as she walked down the parade in front of Trump Tower. “Firefighters are the hunters,” one person exclaimed. Protestors also shouted “Trump” chants at the parade, garnering notable support from firefighters who visibly showed their appreciation toward the crowd who were heckling Commissioner Kavanaugh. Many can be seen stopping to wave and shaking hands with the hecklers.
