Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago just went off the rails attacking Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas over Gov. Abbott’s policy of bussing thousands of migrants who crossed into Texas from the Texan border towns to blue cities around the country.
Mayor Johnson spoke about the issue during a recent press conference, saying during it that the migrants who Abbott has bussed to the city have been brought to Chicago in unsanity conditions and that the Windy City’s already strained resources have been stretched even thinner by the bussing policy.
In his speech, Mayor Johnson noted that Chicago is already dealing with severe issues and that Gov. Abbott’s program is making those problems worse, saying, “They come to the city of Chicago, where we have homelessness, we have mental health clinics that have been shut down and closed.”
That came when he was complaining about the conditions of the migrants who Texas has sent to Chicago and how those migrants are overstretching the city, saying, “The issue is not just how we respond in the city of Chicago. It’s the fact we have a governor, a governor, an elected official in the state of Texas, that is placing families on buses without shoes, cold, wet, tired, hungry, afraid, traumatized, and then they come to the city of Chicago, where we have homelessness, mental health clinics that have been shut down and closed. We have people who are seeking employment. The governor of Texas needs to take a look in the mirror, with the chaos he’s causing for the people of this country.”
Continuing, Johnson then accused Abbott of attacking the country as a whole, not just the Windy City, saying, “This is not just a Chicago dynamic. He is attacking our country!” Gov. Abbott has only sent the migrant buses to a few sanctuary cities across the country, such as New York and Chicago, not the country as a whole, much less red areas in it. Watch Mayor Johnson here:
Gov. Abbott’s office fired back at Mayor Johnson in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying, “If he truly cared about these migrants, he would stop spreading falsehoods and complaining about a few thousand migrants being bused into his sanctuary city. Instead, Mayor Johnson should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border — something the President continues failing to do.”
Commenting on Mayor Johnson’s speech on X, one conservative commentator said, “So just because the Texas border is also the national border, the Biden Administration can let in the rest of the world, but Texas, by itself is supposed to care for them all? Mayor Johnson, your beef is with Joe Biden, not Governor Abbott.”
Another argued that Gov. Abbott should deport the migrants, not send them into America, but that his policy is entertaining because of how the sanctuary city leaders panic over the migrant waves, saying, “Texas should deport them back to Mexico instead of flying them deeper into Country. With that said, I find it ironic how democrat politicians, who condemn Texas for its anti-migration stance, are complaining about migrants in their states.”
