Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently promised to sign a bill into law that would permit the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. The Florida Senate passed Bill 234, allowing the disclosure of testimony and evidence from the grand jury investigation dating back to 2006.
“An act relating to disclosure of grand jury testimony; amending s. 905.27, F.S.; revising the list of persons prohibited from disclosing the testimony of a witness examined before, or the evidence received by, a grand jury; creating an exception for a request by the media or an interested person to the prohibited publishing, broadcasting, disclosing, divulging, or communicating of any testimony of a witness examined before the grand jury, or the content, gist, or import thereof; providing criminal penalties; providing construction; making technical changes; reenacting s. 905.17(1) and (2), F.S., relating to who may be present during a session of a grand jury, to incorporate the amendment made to s. 905.27, F.S., in references thereto; 16 providing an effective date,” the bill reads.
After the House version of the legislation passed earlier this month, Gov. DeSantis indicated that he would sign it into law. DeSantis took to social media to explain his intent to disclose Epstein’s criminal activity to the general public.
“All files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activity should be made public. While the federal government continues to stonewall accountability, I’m glad the Legislature has taken action to release the grand jury material from the Florida state case. I will sign the bill into law,” the governor wrote on social media.
Many users on X celebrated DeSantis’ commitment to expose the hidden details behind Epstein’s criminal activity. “President DeSantis will someday be the guy that FINALLY drains the DC swamp that is protecting all of the bad guys. In the meantime, thank you Governor for getting us some justice from Tallahassee!” one person commented on X.
However, others have questioned why such accountability hasn’t already occurred, while many have speculated why the alleged elite clientele of Epstein have not been brought to justice. “My question is why haven’t they? We have Ghislaine Maxwell in prison for Human Trafficking of young women to the elite and famous and not one of the elite and famous have been arrested,” another person said.
For the past few years, the general public has called for Epstein’s crimes to be fully brought to light. The American Tribune recently reported on a lawsuit against the FBI over its alleged failure to investigate the disgraced financier’s criminal activity properly. Dozens of Epstein victims filed a lawsuit against the bureau, suggesting it did not appropriately act on numerous tips on Epstein’s abuse.
“For over two decades, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (hereinafter “FBI”) permitted Jeffrey Epstein to sex traffic and sexually abuse scores of children and young women by failing to do the job the American people expected of it and that the FBI’s own rules and regulations required: investigate the reports, tips, and evidence it had of rampant sexual abuse and sex trafficking by Epstein and protect the young women and children who fell victim to him,” the lawsuit reads.
