In yet another utterly infuriating move out of the rogue judicial apparatus that has already done so much to attack President Donald Trump and his agenda and is still working to do far, far more, a federal district court judge has moved to block the Trump Administration from requiring proof of citizenship of voter registration forms.
As background, the now-president has long been worried about the matter of non-citizen voting. In a post on Truth Social in 2024, for example, he said, “The New York Post: ‘HOW NON-CITIZENS ARE GETTING VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS ACROSS THE U.S. —WELFARE OFFICES AND OTHER AGENCIES IN 49 U.S. STATES ARE PROVIDING VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS TO MIGRANTS WITHOUT REQUIRING PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP…’ This is terrible, and the reason they want millions of people, many of them criminals, to pour into our Country. They are also using the big government agencies as campaign factories for ‘get out the illegal vote.’ WHERE HAS OUR COUNTRY GONE? IT IS SO SICK AND TIRED. THE DEMOCRATS HAVE NO SHAME. WE MUST STOP THIS IN THE COURTS, IMMEDIATELY!!!”
He then followed that up once in office by requiring, via an executive order that was issued in March, that the U.S. Election Assistance Commission require that everyone and anyone who is registering to vote first provide a government-issued form of proof of United States citizenship, framing that as integral to ensuring election integrity.
Further, the order directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to work with state election officials via information sharing agreements so that cases of election fraud or other election law violations can be investigated and compliance with all federal election integrity measures ensured.
According to the ruling targeting that EO, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission is permanently blocked from adding the requirement of proof of United States citizenship to the federal voter form. such is what U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, based in Washington, D.C., ruled on Friday, October 31.
In her ruling, Judge Kotelly claimed that the requirement was unconstitutional, ruling that the president “lacks the authority to direct such changes.” The judge wrote, “The first question presented in these consolidated cases is whether the president, acting unilaterally, may direct changes to federal election procedures.”
Continuing, she claimed that the fact that the states and Congress have election regulation powers under the Constitution, it is illegal for Trump to require proof of citizenship on forms handled through the executive branch agencies. She said, “Because our Constitution assigns responsibility for election regulation to the States and to Congress, this Court holds that the President lacks the authority to direct such changes.”

White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson responed to the ruling in an email fired off to Fox News Digital in which she said, “President Trump has exercised his lawful authority to ensure only American citizens are casting ballots in American elections.” Continuing, the White House deputy press secretary said, “This is so commonsense that only the Democrat Party would file a lawsuit against it. We expect to be vindicated by a higher court.”
