Rocker Readies to Ditch LA, Slams Its “Toxic Culture”

Rockstar Rod Stewart is done with Los Angeles. In what appears to be his final move as an LA resident, Stewart has listed his $80 million mansion for sale. He is not the only star to do this in recent months; rather, he is just one in a long succession of Hollywood stars who have decided that life would be better outside of Los Angeles, California.

Six months ago, the estate was listed at a mere $70 million asking price but, in the end, was not sold. Now, with a $10 million price increase, Stewart is yet again attempting to leave the liberal stronghold. Stewart’s real estate representative, Tomer Fridman, made it clear that nothing was wrong with the estate; Stewart was simply moving into a new season of his life.

To explain the sale and the home’s historical significance, Fridman said, “The whole family lived there for 30 years. The children grew up there, and he’s got grandchildren already. He’s touring, and he lives in Europe a lot of the time. He built a whole life there, and it’s just time.”

Stewart’s family built fond memories while living in the mansion for the last 30 years, with his son Sean Stewart speaking about some of those in an article published by The New York Times. Any house with that long of a history with one family is bound to hold countless memories of growing up and getting old.

Sean, reflecting on the days that he lived as a boy in that mansion, said, “Some of my favorite memories to this day are playing football on the pitch every Tuesday. And watching movies in the theater with my dad.” It is unclear whether anecdotes like this will help or hurt the sale of the house, but it is neat to hear the family side of a rockstar who we rarely get to see off-stage.

The massive mansion features the aforementioned football pitch and movie theater, but the amenities do not stop there. A massive swimming pool comes close to the home in the back, along with a guesthouse that Fridman assures is only a guesthouse in name. The size of the standalone home would be enough in any normal market, but in Beverley Hills it is only a guesthouse.

Artwork and sculptures adorn both the inside and the outside of the house and property, showing that the architects did not rely only on size when building the home. The mansion in the Beverly Hills area of California stands out even in one of the most prominent areas of the country.

Folks moving into this home will be among a star-studded cast of neighbors with names that are immediately recognizable to fans of music, sports, or movies. According to the New York Post, stars like Barry Bonds, Justin Beiber, and Denzel Washington live in the area. An association with high-caliber stars like that surely increases the valuation of the already exorbitantly priced mansion.
