“Roberts Needs to Go”: Chief Justice John Roberts Sides Against Trump Yet Again and Anger Erupts Online

Social media erupted in anger after Chief Justice John Roberts yet again sided with the woke left against Donald Trump in a recent Supreme Court case. Roberts crossed the aisle to vote with the court’s three liberal judges against the Trump administration’s decision to halt approximately $250 million in Department of Education grants.

For context, these grants were part of the Teacher Quality Partnership and Supporting Effective Educator programs, which are supposed to help recruit new teachers. However, the Trump administration found that these funds were being used to promote DEI initiatives in direct violation of the law.

The Supreme Court sided with Trump and overturned a lower court order by U.S. District Judge Myong Joun, who ordered the grants to be temporarily restored. While the woke judge argued that by canceling the programs, the Department of Education (ED) violated the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), the Supreme Court voted 5-4 in support of Trump.

Reacting to the April 4, 2025 ruling, conservatives pounced on Chief Justice Roberts for betraying his conservative values. Robby Starbuck, a conservative influencer and fellow at the Heritage Institute, made a viral tweet on the issue. He said, “The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Trump’s favor to allow his administration to cancel millions in federal education grants because they funded DEI. Chief Justice John Roberts of course joined with the three left wing justices in dissent. Another win for our movement to END DEI!”
In the comments of his post, users attacked Justice Roberts for his treachery. One such comment read, “Judges can be impeached for bad behavior. The US House doesn’t even have to prove Misdemeanors or High Crimes, only bad behavior. Five SC Justices’ votes qualify them for bad behavior. Ruling is based on agenda, not law. @SpeakerJohnson impeach 5 SC justices and the outlaw fed judges.”

Other users were more laconic. One of the replies read, “Roberts needs to go.” Some accounts questioned whether Roberts can still be considered a conservative judge. One of the many comments read, “Maybe we should quit saying he voted with the three left wing judges and just say “the 4 left wing judges.” Another chimed in to say, “Glad it went that way but it shows how they are clearly not impartial when 15 to 20 % of the time 5 to 4 is the ruling.”

Annoyed by the Supreme Court’s highly partisan nature, some comments questioned the legality of federal judges halting executive power. One comment read, “‘Allow’ seems like the wrong word to use when referencing the Executive Branch’s Constitutional functions. Where are the checks and balances on the Judicial Branch?”

Rounding out the comments, many users drew attention to the RINOs behind Chief Justice Roberts. One of the accounts replied, “Robert’s is an anti-Trumper appointed by GWB… maybe you can find out the mystery of his adopted children…need to expose him for what he is. Ironically, all FISA judges had connections to him.” Building on that point, another user said,” Why did Roberts vote with the Dems? He knows that Dems write the history books. It happens with sooooo many once-good men: they protect their “legacy,” not the Republic.”
