Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was recently called out after reports surfaced on social media indicating that he was engaging in “post-election fundraising.” Many questioned why Walz was still fundraising after the decisive defeat against President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, particularly when considering his controversial leadership as the governor of Minnesota.
A picture shared to X of the fundraising campaign read, “Tim Walz here. If you’re worried about a second Trump administration, you’re not alone — I’m disappointed too. But here’s the truth: in Minnesota, we’ll stand strong to protect our progress and values.” It added, “As Governor, I’ll always defend a woman’s right to choose, support working families, welcome immigrants, and ensure every Minnesotan can live and love freely.”
Despite the loss in the election last month, Walz added, “I’m not done fighting for Minnesota and the future all Americans deserve — not by a long shot.” Urging supporters to donate more money, he said, “We’re just hours from our first post-election fundraising deadline and need $9,500 to hit our goal. Chip in what you can by midnight to keep moving forward.”
Users on social media reacted critically to the post-election campaign from Walz after the nation decisiviely rejected him and Vice President Kamala Harris at the ballot box. “Tim Walz begging for money. He blew $18B in Minnesota and wants more,” The Friar of Frogtown wrote on X, sharing a screenshot of the text from Walz.
Another person succinctly stated that they had never heard of such a concept that Walz was engaging in. “Never, ever heard of “post-election fundraising” in my whole life. Ridiculous,” one person said. Calling out Walz’s leadership in Minnesota, one person commented, “Timmy forgets that he didn’t let people live and love freely during his covid shutdown. Told people to turn in their neighbors and had police walking the neighborhoods forcing people back into their homes.”
“Right to choose? You made MN a butcher shop, taking away all gestational limits on abortion with no reason needed.I mean most be people believe there should be an upper limit or some type of restriction but you slipped that into the constitution so stop beating that drum already,” another person said, criticizing Walz’s stance on abortion.
Wondering about the details behind the operation, another person questioned the legality behind the fundraiser, “I don’t even know what this is. what is a “post election” fundraiser? where does the money go? to Walz’s personal account? what is the money for? to pay off bills incurred by Harris/Walz? Is this even legal for a Governor to be doing?”

The American Tribune recently reported on comments from a Democratic strategist Lindy Li that indicated Walz’s selection as Harris’ running mate was a poor move for the campaign. Li said, “People are wondering tonight what would have happened had Shapiro been on the ticket. And not only in terms of Pennsylvania. He’s a famously a moderate. So that would have signaled to the American people that she is not the San Francisco liberal that Trump said she was, but she went with someone actually to her left Minnesota….In the eyes of the American people, Walz was the governor who oversaw the protests.”
