Recently, Rev. Franklin Graham insisted that America return to the energy independence that the nation had under former President Donald Trump. Rev. Graham made the statement when he stopped in Alaska on his way home from a trip to Vietnam.
President Biden recently approved an oil drilling proposal in Alaska, a seeming retracement from his anti-fossil fuel stance since his campaign. Rev. Graham thanked the president for this move which he deemed “common sense”. Breitbart reported:
On Monday, the Interior Department announced the approval of a modified version of crude oil producer ConocoPhillips’ proposal to drill in the National Petroleum Reserve. On the campaign trail, Mr. Biden had called for an end to drilling on federal lands.
“I believe we should be using the resources God has given us and striving for energy independence, as we were when President Trump was in office,” Graham stated. “There’s no reason we can’t do this. And I’m all for exploring alternate sources of energy for the future. As Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan said, it is ‘national security suicide’ to be dependent on countries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia for oil.”
Under the Trump administration, “climate change” was removed from its list of national security threats, giving way to more friendly regulation of the domestic oil and gas industry. Trump’s national security strategy emphasized a balance of energy security needed for economic development and the protection of the environment. The security strategy stated, “U.S. leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth, energy agenda that is detrimental to U.S. economic and energy security interests,” the NSS declared. “Given future global energy demand, much of the developing world will require fossil fuels, as well as other forms of energy, to power their economies and lift their people out of poverty. ” It also added, “For the first time in generations, the United States will be an energy-dominant nation. Energy dominance — America’s central position in the global energy system as a leading producer, consumer, and innovator — ensures that markets are free and U.S. infrastructure is resilient and secure.”
However, Biden made it clear from his campaign that we would take a different stance toward our domestic energy independence, even vowing to “end fossil fuels.” In his evangelical attitude, Rev. Graham knows what’s best for our country and its citizens; cheap and reliable energy for the world’s largest economy. Graham understands that the United States will not be able to solely rely on far inferior forms of “green” energy.
