Fox News Channel host Brit Hume pulled no punches in a social media post in which he sounded off with a vengeance on President Joe Biden for his decision to award longtime, vocal Trump critic former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) with the Presidential Citizens Medal for her work to attack Trump and othe Republicans on the January 6 Committee.
In the statement lauding Cheney, President Biden mainly referred to her having worked on the anti-Trump January 6th Committee, saying, “Throughout two decades in public service, including as a Congresswoman for Wyoming and Vice Chair of the Committee on the January 6 attack, Liz Cheney has raised her voice—and reached across the aisle—to defend our Nation and the ideals we stand for: Freedom. Dignity. And decency. Her integrity and intrepidness remind us all what is possible if we work together.”
Receiving the award alongside Cheney will be fellow January 6 Committee Member Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Democrat. Biden’s statement on him said, “Born and raised in a segregated Mississippi, as a college student inspired by the Civil Rights movement, Bennie Thompson volunteered on campaigns and registered southern Black voters. That call to serve eventually led him to Congress, where he chaired the House January 6th Committee—at the forefront of defending the rule of law with unwavering integrity and a steadfast commitment to truth.”
Announcing the news of Liz Cheney’s medal on X was CBS News, which posted, “President Biden announced he is awarding the Presidential Citizens Medal to Rep. Bennie Thompson and former Rep. Liz Cheney, the two lawmakers who led the House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol.”
Brit Hume responded to that post with an angry quote-tweet. Beginning his post hammering of Biden over the decision, Hume slammed the award as “repulsive,” saying, “This is repulsive. That investigation was done by a committee all of whose members were chosen by Nancy Pelosi and was produced like a TV show.”
Continuing, he hammered the faults of the January 6 committee, namely its one-sided nature, and an obvious preordained result that the corporate media loved but was, in reality, just a “show trial.” He said, “There was no cross examination of witnesses. The media fell for it, but it was utterly one-sided. A show trial.”
Agreeing with Hume, one commenter said, “That’s exactly what it was. Not one other thing! The ugliest part is that good people are still paying the price for doing nothing wrong. Joe’s now giving the shows star an award..it’s not an Oscar it’s the Presidential Citizens Medal . The 2nd height honor to be awarded to a citizen.”

Another commenter on Hume’s post noted that President Obama had similarly cheapened the award by giving it to movie star friends who were undeserving of such an honor. That commenter wrote, “Obama did same thing, gave so many of his Hollywood enablers, and he cheapened the honor. Meanwhile he won a Nobel for doing nothing, so here we are.”
