Gilberto Hinojosa, the chairman of the Texas Democratic Party, was forced to resign after his party suffered a “devastating defeat,” and his comments about the LGBTQ+ community caused fellow Democrats to cancel him. Announcing his resignation, Hinojosa took to social media to publish an apology that drew widespread condemnation.
For context, Democrats across the nation have been forced to reassess their priorities after the devastating victory of President Donald Trump. In many cases, older, more moderate Democrats have been forced out by younger radicals who seek to lean into woke ideology more.
Such was shown when Gilberto Hinojosa took to X on November 6, 2024. He whined, “I extend my sincerest apologies to those I hurt with my comments today. I recognize the pain and frustration my words have caused. In frustration over the GOP’s lies to incite hate for trans communities, I failed to communicate my thoughts with care and clarity.”
Still not done with his embarrassing post, the Democrat added, “I’ve been committed to fighting against the very rhetoric that has caused trans people across this country to grapple with the fear of simply existing because of the hate spewed by Donald Trump and TX Republicans.”
Concluding his embarrassing remarks, he said, “You deserve to feel seen, valued and safe in our state and our party. My unequivocal and unwavering support for LGBTQ+ Texans remains steadfast, and I am committed to ensuring our party never abandons you, especially when you need us most.”
Before his cancellation, Hinojosa expressed the uncomfortable truth that the Democrats’ obsession with woke politics may have cost them the election. He said, “You have a choice as a party, you could, for example, you can support transgender rights up and down all the categories where the issue comes up, or you can understand that there’s certain things that we just go too far on, that a big bulk of our population does not support.”
Adding to this point, he described the historic victory of Donald Trump as a “devastating defeat.” Building on this point, he stated, “It is imperative that our Democratic leaders across the country reevaluate what is best for our party and embrace the next generation of leaders to take us through the next four years of Trump and win back seats up and down the ballot.”

However, many woke ideologues were triggered by his remarks. Brigitte Bandit, a nonbinary drag queen, said, “These aren’t comments made out of frustration. these are comments made out of unchecked transphobia. this is unacceptable leadership. resign. ”
Agreeing Equality Texas, the state’s largest LGBTQ activist organization, whined, “It’s irresponsible and offensive that the long-standing Chairman of the Texas Democratic Party would try to hang the losses suffered statewide by Democrats around the necks of transgender Texans,” adding “There are more than 90,000 transgender people living in Texas. This is our state too. We need steadfast allies, not weak figureheads.”
