Recently, the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) criticized former President Barrack Obama over his stance on Israel and the Middle East. The RJC denounced Obama for what they deemed an attempt to equivocate the terrorism of Hamas to Israeli “occupation.”
While making an appearance on a podcast, Obama stated that America was “complicit” in the suffering endured by Israel and Gaza. As many have labeled the conflict as unquestionably “good versus evil,” Obama claims it is more complex than a simple binary notion.
“If there’s any chance of us being able to act constructively, to do something, it will require an admission of complexity. And maintaining, what on the surface may seem contradictory ideas, that what Hamas did was horrific, and there’s no justification for it; and what is also true is that the occupation [sic] and what’s happening to Palestinians is unbearable…And so if you want to solve the problem, you have to take in the whole truth, and you then have to admit nobody’s hands are clean, that all of us are complicit to some degree,” he said.
Responding to Obama, the RJC lambasted his stance on the issue, concisely stating that “it’s not” a complicated matter. “At a time when morality, international law, and the welfare of our chief ally in the Middle East all demand that we stand with Israel, full stop, Barack Obama says it’s complicated. It’s not,” the organization said.
The Republican group pointed out the terrorism and violence committed by Hamas, denouncing their disregard for human life. The RJC assigned full blame to Hamas for the ensuing conflict, urging America to fully support Israel in dismantling the terrorist group.
“Hamas attacks civilians; Hamas takes hostages; Hamas uses Gazans as human shields; Hamas steals humanitarian supplies; Hamas builds terrorism tunnels instead of bomb shelters, or schools, or houses. Hamas is to blame for the current war. The US should be fully behind Israel as it seeks to end Hamas’s capability to harm Israelis and Gazans alike,” the RJC said.
The group continued slamming Obama as he “blames” Israel for the “barbaric” attack that was perpetrated against them. The RJC went on to suggest that the policy decisions of Joe Biden and Barrack Obama emboldened Iran, which financially supported Hamas and other terrorist groups.
“But instead, when Israel faces a barbaric attack from Hamas, Obama blames Israel. It is Barack Obama who is complicit in the death and suffering over the last month in Israel and in Gaza. His policies and those of President Joe Biden put billions of dollars into Iranian coffers, money used to fund and train Hamas and other terrorist groups whose stated goals are the destruction of Israel and the annihilation of Jews,” the RJC added. “Obama’s attempt to dilute his own culpability in this situation doesn’t change the facts.”
The American Tribune recently reported on other comments made by Obama, where the former president urged Israel to take careful consideration deals with Hamas. “But even as we support Israel, we should also be clear that how Israel prosecutes this fight against Hamas matters. In particular, it matters — as President Biden has repeatedly emphasized — that Israel’s military strategy abides by international law, including those laws that seek to avoid, to every extent possible, the death or suffering of civilian populations,” he said.
