Republican Congressman Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, who is currently serving as the Chairman for the House Freedom Caucus, said on Tuesday that he believes FBI Director Christopher Wray should be thrown in “the brig” if he dares to set one foot on Capitol Hill after refusing to comply with a subpoena and supply an informant file to Congress that allegedly contains detains concerning an arrangement that involved an exchange of cash for policy decisions between then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national.
According to Breitbart News, The GOP-controlled House started to hold Director Wray in contempt of Congress on Tuesday for not obeying the subpoena that was issued by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Kentucky Republican. If they do decide to hold Wray in contempt, the House will then pass the charges on to the DOJ.
“We can’t press charges. But we certainly can refer charges,” Perry said in an inteview conducted with Just the News. “And if he shows up on Capitol Hill, if he shows up in the House chamber, he can certainly end up in the brig here.”
“I think those are harsh words, but we just cannot have this defiance,” Perry later said.
Perry also said that if Wray decides to keep stonewalling, he needs to suffer the consequences for his actions, including what he called “the most extreme competent consequences” that the House can throw at him.
“That’s what needs to happen with an individual like him with his defiance about the truth that the American people deserve and own,” the congressman stated.
Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, once revealed there was a jail in the basement of the Capitol Building designed specifically for holding those who defy congressional subpoenas.
“We do have a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol, but if we were arresting all of the people in the administration we would have an overcrowded jail situation,” Pelosi went on to say in an interview with the Washington Post. “And I’m not for that.”
Interestingly, the Justice Department has not denied the existence of the informant file.
