John Solomon, editor-in-chief of Just The News, made an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room on August 5, 2026, where he talked at length about the Justice Department’s request for specific Senate transcripts that contain materials involving former CIA Director John Brennan’s interviews before Senate committees that have not been provided to investigators.
“I’m going to go back to being a reporter for a second. I do not know this information from anything I’ve gained in government. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Republicans are obstructing the investigation into weaponization,” Solomon went on to say during the podcast. “There are two Republicans I can name by name, Senator John Thune and Senator Tom Cotton. They have refused for months, four months now.”
“The first request came in late January, early February. They are refusing thus far to provide to Joe DiGenova, to the prosecutors in Florida, to the Miami U.S. Attorney, to the Justice Department, the transcripts of John Brennan’s interviews with the Senate Judiciary— Senate Intelligence Committee,” he added.
“They have refused to do so. I’m gonna call out a third name because I don’t understand the Justice Department’s behavior. When a body that’s separate of the executive branch doesn’t comply, Every other time in American history, go back to Iran-Contra, go back to Watergate, the Justice Department subpoenas the Congress,” Solomon explained.
“For some reason, the acting Attorney General, who wants to be the permanent Attorney General, has not authorized a subpoena to the United States Senate to get those documents. Those documents will allow the prosecutors in Miami to decide whether the charges are warranted against John Brennan,” the editor-in-chief continued.
According to Trending Politics News, Solomon then went on to describe the lack of cooperation from Republican senators as “ridiculous” both from a political and practical standpoint. “There ought to be a grand jury subpoena sitting in the Senate clerk’s office, and there ought to be a court case yesterday compelling this because the Justice Department has been delayed by 8 months by 2 Republicans,” he said.
Just The News reported in April 2026 that the DOJ requested transcripts and records from the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee concerning Brennan. The materials were related to the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, titled, “Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent U.S. Elections,” which contained documents connected to the infamous Steele dossier and the allegations of collusion between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russian officials.

The report also stated that Assistant Attorney General Patrick Davis sent out numerous letters seeking “fully unredacted copies of classified and unclassified transcripts of the Committee’s interviews, depositions, briefings, and hearings with any witnesses, as well as any written responses provided by witnesses.”
The letters also indicated the materials were for official use in an ongoing law enforcement matter and featured a set compliance deadline of February 23, 2026. The request also demonstrated support for a grand jury investigation that’s based in Fort Pierce, Florida. The investigation is looking into whether certain government officials within both the Obama and Biden administrations engaged in a conspiracy involving the use of law enforcement and intelligence tools.
Former U.S. Attorney and Independent Counsel Joe diGenova, was said to play a critical part in the Florida effort. Two months after the February deadline, in mid-April 2026, the Senate, under the leadership of Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), had not transmitted the requested materials. However, the House had voted to transmit similar evidence.
