Recently released emails have revealed that the Biden-era DOJ and FBI discussed opening a criminal investigation into then-Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) for potential Federal Election Campaign Act violations, after she left the Democratic Party.
These suspicious messages followed a New York Post report on her expenditures, which were flagged by the DC U.S. Attorney’s office. However, no probe was launched. Sinema’s team called it politically motivated retaliation for her defying Democrats on issues like the filibuster.
Responding to the news, Daniel Winkler, Sinema’s chief of staff, was irate. “It’s disappointing, though not surprising, to learn that Walter Giardina, who led politically motivated investigations at the FBI, also sought to investigate Kyrsten for partisan political reasons after she defied Biden and the Senate Democrats to protect the filibuster,” he noted.
Building on this point, he demolished these baseless allegations by going after the former FBI agent, saying, “Giardina’s pathetic attempts led nowhere, his abuse of power is now exposed to the public, and the filibuster stands strong today.”
At the time of the investigation, then-FBI special agent Walter Giardina sent an email that read, “I’m interested in looking at the Sinema referral if it’s something you’re looking to assign.” Answering, then-Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Aloi, stated, “Walter, I understand that you are likely to be assigned to the Kyrsten Sinema FECA case if we open on it.”
However, some social media users were suspicious. “This NY Post story is weird. Biden DOJ considered investigating Kyrsten Sinema’s (truly outrageous) campaign spending. It’s framed as political retribution, but they chose not to investigate, let alone bring charges. And NY Post exposed the spending!” reporter Roger Sollenberger reacted on X.
Following up, he said, “I don’t get it—the spending was egregious, and the NY Post wrote it up for that reason. Biden DOJ considered investigating it but ultimately declined. Were they protecting Sinema? The article implies the opposite, that they were targeting her for being politically disagreeable.”

However, others saw it as a classic example of political lawfare. “Pay attention, useful Leftist idiots. THIS is how your Leftist Leaders will treat you too, once you fail to please them. STOP VOTING FOR DEMOCRATS!,” one conservative reacted.
Agreeing, another suspicious comment noted, Dems are basically the Mafia – loyalty forever, zipped lips on every scandal—and if you dare switch teams like Sinema, the DOJ rolls up with a “routine audit” of your campaign expenses, ready to whack you with an IRS lien that’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse as we saw in classic *Godfather* kind where saying no means big trouble 😀” Likewise oen comment stated, “One thing I’ll say for the Biden administration – they knew how to do retribution.”
Some conservatives were frustrated by the Trump administration’s lack of response. “Bondi doesn’t even do legal and above board investigations against DC swamp dwellers. Might as well have Garland in there still,” one commentator reacted.
