Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently called for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to create a new committee focused on investigating the previous Democrat-led January 6th committee. The previous committee, led by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has been criticized for perpetuating lies and a biased agenda surrounding the 2021 event.
“I’m calling on [Mike Johnson] to create a January 6th Select Committee. Releasing the tapes is not enough! There needs to be investigations and ACCOUNTABILITY for ALL of the lies, deceit, and lives ruined,” Greene wrote on social media.
She continued, “Every member of the Jan 6th committee, Nancy Pelosi, FBI, DOJ, DC Police, Cap Police, Jan 6 witnesses who lied, all need to be subpoenaed. Criminal referrals must be written, and prosecutions MUST happen under a Trump DOJ. I’ve said it all along, MAGA did not do this.”
Speaker Mike Johnson recently announced he would release approximately 40,000 hours of footage from the Capitol on January 6. Many believe the footage will be necessary in combating the Democrat narrative of the events that took place. Johnson reaffirmed his promise to the American public to release the security footage and inform the public of the truth surrounding J6.
“I am keeping my promise to the American people and making all the January 6th tapes available to ALL Americans,” Johnson wrote on X. “When I ran for Speaker, I promised to make accessible to the American people the 44,000 hours of video from Capitol Hill security taken on January 6, 2021. Truth and transparency are critical. Today, we will begin immediately posting video on a public website and move as quickly as possible to add to the website nearly all of the footage, more than 40,000 hours. In the meantime, a public viewing room will ensure that every citizen can view every minute of the videos uncensored.”
Johnson further emphasized the importance the footage will play in providing a more accurate portrayal of what went down at the Capitol instead of the purported liberal narrative that has plagued the media. The speaker assured that the footage would be handled appropriately to avoid compromising sensitive information.
“This decision will provide millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations, and the media an ability to see for themselves what happened that day, rather than having to rely upon the interpretation of a small group of government officials,” he continued. “I commend Chairman Loudermilk and his team for their diligent work to ensure the thousands of hours of videos are promptly processed to be uploaded to the committee’s public website. Processing will involve blurring the faces of private citizens on the yet unreleased tapes to avoid any persons from being targeted for retaliation of any kind and segregating an estimated 5% of the videos that may involve sensitive security information related to the building architecture.”
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson first reported on the initial release of the January 6 footage under former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, which served as major evidence against the liberal narrative.. However, Republicans began to grow frustrated with McCarthy after he failed to fulfill his promise of widely distributing and fully releasing the footage. Speaker Johnson appears to be following through for the Republican base with this new initiative.
