Speaking to CNN’s Brianna Keilar about the horrible attack on Catholic Mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, far-left “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) took the opportunity not to comment on the spate of attacks on Christians, but instead to ramble about the need for an “assault weapons” ban.
As background, a transgender individual known as Robin Westman, or Robert Westman, opened fire on the schoolchildren when they were at Mass on Wednesday, August 27, and during the shooting, tragically killed two schoolchildren and injured 18. Many leftists took to the internet in the wake of the shooting to gloat about prayer not working, or to call for more gun control. Rep. Omar was in the latter category.
Speaking to CNN about the matter during her appearance with Keilar on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, August 31, Rep. Omar absurdly insisted that Republicans, in focusing on the church shooter being transgender, are trying to “deflect” from the importance of gun control and an assault weapons ban.
Doing so, Rep. Omar began, “These people are all over the place because they want to deflect from the reality, which is that there was someone who came into that school through the window and assassinated two beautiful angels as they prayed and put 214 other children in the hospital who are still fighting for their lives.”
Continuing, she used that to insist that dealing with “mental health issues” takes a distant second place to banning such firearms, snapping, “It is important for us to make sure that we are offering a slew of solutions. One is to make sure that we are getting rid of assault weapons in in our community. Two, that we are addressing mental health issues if there are some.”
Rep. Omar then continued to ramble about the mental health issue, dancing around the transgenderism aspect and instead commenting vaguely on warning signs. She said, “And yes, as a community, it is important for us to say something when we see something, when somebody is exhibiting signs that there could be a problem ahead.”
Then, turning that into a hectoring demand to not “point fingers,” she snapped, “That we talk to them, that we get them the assistance they need, and that yes, we do alert law enforcement, but this is not the moment to point fingers at people. It is time for us to come together and figure out what the solutions are so that there are no more angels in our communities.”

Further, attacking conservatives who have commented on the shooter’s transgender identity, Omar snapped that their doing so, as exemplified by White House advisor Sebastian Gorka having done so on CNN shortly before Omar’s appearance, was “really unfortunate.” She said it is “really unfortunate that we have people like him speaking on this.”
Adding to that point, the Squad congresswoman insisted, “At one moment he talks about the fact that the evil murderous person who took two angels from us and harmed our community for a really long time. He talked about their transgenderness, and then he says that shouldn’t really matter.”
