Indiana Rep. Andrew Ireland filed HJR 1, a constitutional amendment that would allow the legislature to impeach “rogue” judges and prosecutors who repeatedly fail to enforce laws against violent offenders. Aimed at figures like Marion County DA Ryan Mears, who critics accuse of consistently showing leniency toward repeat offenders, the measure expands impeachment beyond “high crimes” to include negligence that endangers public safety.
Contextualizing his amendment, Ireland declared, “I just want somebody who will hold violent offenders accountable… It’s amazing to me that I can be impeached, but the prosecutor can’t.” Viral conservative voices, led by Mario Nawfal, hailed it as long-overdue accountability, urging every state to follow.
Starting off a detailed breakdown on X, formerly X, popular conservative Mario Newfal noted, “🚨🇺🇸 INDIANA MOVES TO IMPEACH ‘ROGUE’ JUDGES & PROSECUTORS: FINALLY, REAL TEETH FOR PUBLIC SAFETY.”
Continuing his commentary, the inlucer dug into the details. “Indiana Rep. Andrew Ireland filed a proposed constitutional amendment to let the state legislature impeach judges and prosecutors who go soft on violent offenders,” he said.
Building on his previous comments, he said, “Repeat killers or rapists get slaps on the wrist, and now lawmakers could boot the enablers out the door. The push? It’s aimed square at spots like Marion County, where critics say DA Ryan Mears has let folks with rap sheets, like the IndyGo bus arsonist, walk free, spiking fear in neighborhoods.”
Still not done, he explained the pathway to making this amendment law. “Ireland’s bill would expand impeachment beyond just “high crimes” to straight-up failure to enforce laws that protect innocents, needing approval in 2 legislative sessions before hitting voters,” Newfal wrote.
Next, he described how conservatives have begged for similar laws, saying, “This is the accountability people’ve been screaming for. Soft-on-crime benchwarmers hide behind ‘discretion,’ but when their leniency endangers families, it’s not justice, it’s negligence.”

Concluding his comments, he said, “The U.S. would be in the vanguard of this movement, it’s due to time to boot ’em, replace ’em with tough enforcers who prioritize victims over perps. Indiana’s leading the charge; time for every state to follow and make courts serve the people, not coddle chaos.”
Contextualizing the move, Ireland took to social media to announce his amendment. “🚨 I just filed my Constitutional amendment to let Indiana IMPEACH rogue judges and prosecutors who refuse to hold violent criminals accountable,” he posted.
Similarly, while speaking to local media, he dug into his motivations. “I just want somebody who will hold the violent offenders accountable, and if Ryan Mears isn’t up to that task, then we have to have tools to replace him,” the Republican noted.
He clarified, “All I’m looking for is someone who will enforce our laws, especially when it comes to violent crime. Right now, I don’t think that’s happening,” adding, “It doesn’t make a lot of sense to make any laws if we’re going to just have judges and prosecutors that ignore them… It’s really reigning in rogue prosecutors and rogue judges.” Closing his comments with a confident statment, Ireland declared, “It’s amazing to me that I can be impeached, but the prosecutor can’t.”
