It’s not just blue states where workers staffers fill every office and are trying to use their power against both conservatives and Christians. Such is what just happened in ruby red Tennessee, where a public library director and some library staff tried to shut down a children’s reading event last month featuring conservative actor Kirk Cameron.
Fortunately for those who want to support Christian authors in the state, the woke library director has since been fired. That came after the Sumner County Library Board voted 4 to 3 to terminate Hendersonville Public Library director Allan Morales.
The event with which Morales tried to interfere featured Kirk Cameron, anti-transgender swimmer Riley Gaines, and Missy Robertson, best known as a star of Duck Dynasty. It was Missy Robertson who accused Morales of interfering with the reading event, though she didn’t use his name when accusing him.
She discussed the matter during her appearance on a recent episode of BlazeTV’s “Unashamed with Phil & Jase Robertson,” saying “He started a campaign in the community to shut [the event] down without officially canceling it because then he knew that it wouldn’t be good for their library.”
She also alleged that the staff behaved disruptively to try and prevent them from shooting promotional footage, saying “They’re slamming books together. They’re kicking cabinets. They’re hollering out loud.”
Watch her describe the situation here:
Cameron referenced similar events in a post on Facebook, saying “Despite the rain and the unkind pushback (from one disgruntled librarian), an OVERFLOW crowd of families, mayors, county commissioners, and celebs welcomed and joined us at the library in Hendersonville, TN. for singing the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, praying and teaching faith in God and moral values to our kids. 🙏🏼🔥🇺🇸 #bebrave. Fortunately, the event was still a success, as the Blaze reported, saying:
Last month, Cameron, “Duck Dynasty” star Missy Robertson, and women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines joined forces for a children’s story time event at Hendersonville Library, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Cameron, Robertson, and professional female surfer Bethany Hamilton have each written children’s books published by patriotic and God-centered publishing company Brave Books, which sponsored the event. Gaines, a former elite college swimmer, attended the event on behalf of Hamilton, who had a scheduling conflict.
[…]Despite possible efforts to sabotage the event and some unfavorable weather, hundreds of people from around the area arrived at the library for the big day.
Conservatives weren’t the only ones furious about the situation. Morales’ sister, Marilyn Kleist, slammed the decision to publically fire Morales after allegations of his bad behavior surfaced. In her words: “To terminate him so publicly. That was not right. That’s not right, that I know for sure. That is shocking, and it’s sad, and it has literally divided a community. It has, you know, branded the library team in ways that only told one side of the story.”
What the other “side of the story” to why library staff were banging pans to keep promotional footage for a children’s Christian book reading event away was unstated, likely because there’s no defence for that behavior that makes sense to a non-leftist.
