The highly anticipated 2024 presidential election is finally underway with a crowded list of politicians who have thrown their hats in the ring to win the role of commander-in-chief. Now, with an announcement being made on a live microphone at Lionel Messi’s MLS debut. There will officially be at least one rapper making his name known as a candidate for the most important office in the land.
Darryl McDaniels, better known as DMC from the famous rap group Run-DMC, took to a microphone at field level and began talking about the debut of soccer star Lionel Messi in a rant that took a turn for the exciting part way through. Messi’s debut has brought the city of Miami together as fans from all around Dade County flowed to the stadium to watch one of soccer’s greatest players ever take the pitch.
According to a transcript of the interview provided by OutKick, DMC began his cornerstone speech by shouting out praise to Lionel Messi. “The whole beauty of everything that’s going on, Messi being here, soccer, MLS, everything that’s going on, this is what the world is all about,” he said.
Then, he detailed the basic thesis for his upcoming platform. It appears that DMC will be running to bring unity to the United States of America, or as he put it, “We see so much division, but if we go to a soccer game or concert or museum, where the sports and art is, it’s a true representation of how great this world is. Not can be, is.”
The DMC let us know exactly who was going to solve that problem, and now, it isn’t a politician that you’ve ever heard of. He announced, “And I am running for President starting today because in a beautiful place like this… what better place to announce it? But it’s all about togetherness and people coming together.”
While the rise of Donald Trump may give hope to those in the entertainment world that a life in politics may be awaiting them when retirement from the media comes, it’s admittedly hard to imagine that DMC will be anywhere near the White House in 2024.
With stiff competition from well-known politicians, it will be difficult for DMC to even find a spot on a debate, let alone woo the American populace into voting for him in the kind of numbers that are necessary to become president. With that being said, however, DMC realizes that those exact sentiments were what media members said about Donald Trump before his successful 2016 presidential run.
So, this is likely just a fun little fact that we can all look back on in a few years with out friends. It will be fun to joke about that time that famous rapper DMC ran for president in a year that had two clear frontrunners in Trump and Biden. Maybe we’ll even get some good soundbites out of this.
