Senator Rand Paul is widely respected, particularly in conservative circles, for his general intelligence and sane approach to political matters, however contentious or high-stress. He lived up to that reputation yet again when he weighed into the debate over who the next Speaker of the House should be, throwing his support behind Rep. Jim Jordan.
Explaining his support for Rep. Jordan in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sen. Paul noted that Rep. Jordan’s views on the top issues of the day, whether America should continue sending billions upon billions of dollars to Ukraine and how it can fix its fiscal crisis, are ones he shares.
Sen. Paul said, “There are big differences in the race for Speaker regarding fiscal responsibility and aid to Ukraine. We need to stop funding other country’s wars and fix our fiscal mess. One candidate for Speaker agrees. If I were voting for Speaker, @Jim_Jordan would have my enthusiastic vote.”

Rep. Jordan, who has voted against Ukraine funding from the beginning, told reporters on Wednesday that he is “against” moving forward with an aid package for Ukraine, signaling that a sea-shift in the amount of foreign aid to the country could be coming if he is made Speaker.
Commenting on what he would focus on instead of the Ukraine aid, Rep. Jordan said, “The most pressing issue on Americans’ minds is not Ukraine. It is the border situation, and it’s crime on the streets. And everybody knows that. So let’s address those.”
Similarly, Sen. Paul recently told Fox News Digital that there is a growing movement to reject sending yet more aid to the Ukrainians and that doing so is becoming increasingly necessary as America struggles to fund its own, domestic priorities.
He said, “We have problems funding Social Security, we have problems funding, Medicare, Medicaid, all the things that have already been promised to our people we have trouble funding, and we just don’t have extra money just to be sending to another country.”
Joining Rep. Jordan and Sen. Paul was Rep. Chip Roy, who said, “Let’s be very clear: there’s going to be a lot coming at us over the next 45 days. We need to get the appropriations bills done under the debt ceiling deal, get spending down, and we need to make sure that not $1 is going to Ukraine, not $1 is going to Ukraine unless we do our job is secure the border first and unless we pay for anything we do and unless we get appropriations done. And even then, I’m not interested in continuing to fund a proxy war, but we’ve got to do our job to leverage that to force change.”
Rep. Jordan also received the support of former President Donald Trump, who said, “Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District. Respected by all, he is now Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. As President, I had the honor of presenting Jim with our Country’s highest civilian award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom. So much is learned from sports, and Jim was a master! While attending Graham High School, he won State Championships all four years, a rarity, and compiled an amazing 156-1 record. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jim became a two-time NCAA Division l Wrestling Champion. He won his 1985-86 NCAA Championship Matches in his weight class.”
