Purple State Republicans Deliver Major Win for Trump with Key Redistricting

In another massive win for the MAGA movement, Republican legislators in North Carolina, a purple state that still has a relatively effective and competent GOP, moved to pass a redistricting map that makes one Democrat district a Republican one, and pushes Democrat voters into a different district.

For reference, the two districts at issue are North Carolina’s 1st District, which very narrowly supported President Trump in the 2024 election, yet is represented by a Democrat, Rep. Don Davis. Under the new map, the 1st District has received more Republican-voting areas, turning it into a red one, as the nearby 3rd District will absorb Democrat voters.

State Sen. Ralph Hise, the Republican who prepared the map, a map which quite pleased President Donald Trump, explained, “The motivation behind this redraw is simple and singular: drawing new map that will bring an additional Republican seat to the North Carolina congressional delegation.”

In contrast, Rep. Don Davis, the Democrat whose seat has been nuked by the map, angrily declared, “Since the start of this new term, my office has received 46,616 messages from constituents of different political parties, including those unaffiliated, expressing a range of opinions, views, and requests. Not a single one of them included a request for a new congressional map redrawing eastern North Carolina.”

The map was approved in a 66-48 vote on Wednesday, October 22 in the North Carolina House of Representatives, and the state Senate already passed it. The new map will mean that Republicans will go from controlling 10 out of the state’s 14 seats to controlling 11 of them.

President Trump, commenting on the map in a post on Truth Social, declared, shortly before the Republicans started voting to pass it and after they announced their intentions, “Thank you to North Carolina’s incredible Republican State Legislators, who just introduced a new, fair, and improved, Congressional Map, a situation I am watching, and strongly supporting, very closely.”

Continuing, he noted that North Carolina has remained in his camp for years, saying, “It was my Great Honor to win North Carolina six times, including Primaries, in 2016, 2020, and 2024, and this new Map would give the fantastic people of North Carolina the opportunity to elect an additional MAGA Republican in the 2026 Midterm Elections, which would be A HUGE VICTORY for our America First Agenda, not just in North Carolina, but across our Nation.”

And, commenting on his election more generally while encouraging Republicans in NC to do the redistricting they have now done, he said, “Remember, I won the Electoral College, 312-226, Counties Nationwide, 2,700 to 525, all seven Swing States (A LANDSLIDE!), and now I have the best Polling Numbers I’ve ever had. Our Party has never been more UNITED, and we are getting so much done for the American People because of it. Therefore, I encourage all of my Republican friends in the North Carolina Legislature to work as hard as they can to pass this new Map so that we can continue our incredible Record of SUCCESS. It is wonderful to see Republicans in “The Tar Heel State” standing up to Save our Country and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. THANK YOU NORTH CAROLINA — MAGA2026!”
