North Carolina may have redistricted in a big win for Trump and Republicans heading into 2026, but the state still has its fair share of awful Democrats, namely Rep. Cecil Brockman of High Point, a far-left state representative. Brockman has been charged with felonies tied to his alleged taking advantage of a minor.
As background, the news of Brockman’s conduct and charges broke in mid-October, and went viral on X thanks to the Libs of TikTok account, which said, “BREAKING: North Carolina State Rep Cecil Brockman (D) has been arrested and charged with STATUTORY R*PE of a 13-15 year-old minor.” Building on this point, she added more context, saying, “Brockman also reportedly tried to ‘use his status to gain information’ about the victim’s location while the victim was at the hospital. He must RESIGN!”
Those serious charges led to most of the state’s public figures calling for his resignation. House Majority Leader Brenden Jones (R-Columbus), for example, made it clear that what Brockman is accused of doing was utterly unacceptable. “This behavior is appalling and has no place in the General Assembly. I am calling on Brockman’s resignation immediately,” he declared.
Echoing the calls, Gov. Josh Stein (D) called for a resignation. He said, “The charges are extremely serious and deeply troubling, and while the criminal justice process takes effect, he cannot be effective representing his constituents, and he should resign.”
Brockman, who is 41, has now resigned. Such was reported by local media station WXII, which released his statement. That statement began, “I am currently facing criminal charges brought against me in Guilford County. Due to the seriousness of these accusations, I need to focus on my defense of these allegations.”
Continuing, Brockman said that he would be resigning, effective immediately, as he couldn’t fulfill his duty to his constituents. That part of the statement provided, “As a result, I am unable to fulfill my duty and service to my constituents in Guilford County. As a result, I am resigning my position from the NC House of Representatives effective immediately.”

Commenting on Brockman’s resignation in a statement, House Democratic leader Robert Reives said, WXII reports, “I am glad that Rep. Brockman has voluntarily resigned from the General Assembly. The allegations against him are serious and made it impossible for him to adequately represent his constituents. I look forward to the Guilford County Democrats appointing his successor.”
Also chiming in was North Carolina House Speaker Destin Hall, a Republican, who commented on Brockman’s resignation in a statement that WXII also released. That statement provided, “Rep. Brockman’s decision to resign is the right thing to do for his constituents and for the North Carolina House of Representatives. His departure spares the House from a difficult expulsion process and brings closure to this troubling chapter.”
According to Fox News Digital, which also reported on the horrifying situation, former Rep. Brockman currently remains in jail, or at least remained in jail as of Halloween, and faces a bond of slightly over $1 million. His attorney is attempting to get the bond reduced, and the hearing for that is scheduled for Monday, November 3.
