President Donald Trump took Oklahoma Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt to the proverbial woodshed on February 11, 2026, slapping the political career-killing label of “RINO” — Republican In Name Only — on him in a post on social media, claiming Stitt got it all “WRONG” when he claimed the president was only inviting GOP governors to an upcoming annual meeting.
Trump’s powerful rebuke of Stitt came after a report from the Associated Press said the bipartisan meeting was “unraveling.” The Republican governor, who is the chairman of the National Governors Association, went on to say the group was not going to attend the meeting because Trump didn’t invite his Democratic colleagues, who he says are equal members of the group.
President Trump took to Truth Social and set the record straight by saying that there were only two Democratic governors he purposefully excluded from the event, scheduled to be held at the White House. Otherwise, the meeting, which is scheduled for February 20, 2026, is still on. “That is false!” Trump stated in his response to Stitt’s claim. He then stated that he sent invitations to every governor in the country, minus two, saying, “The invitations were sent to ALL Governors, other than two, who I feel are not worthy of being there.”
According to Mediaite, the president also stated in his social media post, “I did not invite the Governor of Colorado, who has unfairly incarcerated in solitary confinement a 73-year-old cancer-stricken woman (A nine year term!), for attempting to fight Democrat Voter Fraud, plus the foul mouthed Governor of Maryland, who fraudulently stated that he received Military medals, A LIE, is doing a terrible job on the rebuilding of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, and has allowed Baltimore to continue to be a Crime Disaster.”
The two governors excluded from the event are Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis and Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore. The report goes on to reveal that Moore is the vice chair of the NGA. President Trump said that he offered invitations to the event to two of his biggest critics, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D), who he referred to as a “SLOB,” and “horrendous” California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), “despite the terrible job that they are doing.” True to his character, Trump referred to the California governor as “Newscum.”
Trump’s post then said, “as usual, Stitt got it WRONG.” In the letter Stitt shared with several media outlets, he explained that, “Because NGA’s mission is to represent all 55 governors, the Association is no longer serving as the facilitator for that event, and it is no longer included in our official program.” The president denied the claim and said that he did, in fact, want everyone to attend, except for Polis and Moore.
“I look forward to seeing the Republican Governors, and some of the Democrats Governors who were worthy of being invited, but most of whom won’t show up,” President Trump concluded in the post, going on to add his now-famous closing line, “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
