Posting on his Truth Social platform about Obamacare and the cost of insurance, President Donald Trump argued that Senate Republicans should abolish the Obamacare catastrophe and reroute federal health care spending dollars to ordinary, individual Americans instead of the big insurance companies.
As background, the matter has become pressing because the subsidies for Obamacare that were passed as a temporary measure during the Biden era, to help respond to the COVID pandemic, have run out. As a result, the cost of many health insurance plans is set to explode in the coming year, creating pressure on the government to do something about it.
Democrats have demanded that Republicans refund the Obamacare subsidies, while Republicans have noted that the subsidies were always just a temporary measure and should be ended so that the problem can be fixed rather than just postponed indefinitely. President Trump, taking a more radical stance, called for the whole system to be demolished and for Americans to receive the healthcare spending so they can choose how to spend it.
Posting his idea on Truth Social, the president said, “I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over.”
Continuing, the president said that it’s time to terminate Obamacare and that the insurance companies are terrible, statements with which many Americans will agree. He wrote, “In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare. Unrelated, we must still terminate the Filibuster!”
And, in another post on the matter, the president said that the insurance companies are Democrat supported and thus shouldn’t be receiving gobs of money from the government for horrible healthcare, writing, “NO MORE MONEY, HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, TO THE DEMOCRAT SUPPORTED INSURANCE COMPANIES FOR REALLY BAD OBAMACARE.”
Continuing, he added that it is time for the federal spending to go directly to the American people rather than the big insurance companies, saying, “THE MONEY MUST NOW GO DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE, TAKING THE “FAT CAT” INSURANCE COMPANIES OUT OF THE CORRUPT SYSTEM OF HEALTHCARE.”

Concluding, the president said that changing things around in such a manner would save Americans a great deal of money and lead to better, cheaper policies. He wrote, “THE PEOPLE CAN BUY THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER POLICY, FOR MUCH LESS MONEY, SAVING, FOR THEMSELVES, AN ABSOLUTE FORTUNE!!! PRESIDENT DJT”
Conservatives on X were broadly supportive of the plan, with many noting that Senate Republicans need to nuke the filibuster and move the ball forward on matters like this to save the country. One such account, “Clandestine,” wrote, “Trump wants to delete Obamacare. This is yet another issue we could address if we terminate the filibuster and go nuclear on the Dems. The days of negotiating are over. It’s time to undo the damage that was done to this nation. Save the republic. Apologize for nothing.”
