According to recent reports, the Biden administration has rolled out plans to provide Obamacare to thousands of illegal immigrants. The move would give taxpayer-funded healthcare to minors who entered the United States under the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program.
Reportedly, over 100,000 migrants will qualify for the free healthcare granted under the Affordable Care Act, often called Obamacare. The illegal immigrants, known as “Dreamers,” will be able to enroll in the program starting next year.
It was previously prohibited for non-residents to reap the benefits of American taxpayer-funded healthcare, but the Biden administration seeks to change this. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) intends to modify the definition of a “lawfully present” individual who can receive healthcare.
“’I’m proud of the contributions of Dreamers to our country and committed to providing Dreamers the support they need to succeed,” Biden said in a recent statement. “That’s why I’ve previously directed the Department of Homeland Security to take all appropriate actions to ‘preserve and fortify’ DACA. And that’s why today we are taking this historic step to ensure that DACA recipients have the same access to health care through the Affordable Care Act as their neighbors.”
Subsequently, the Trump campaign sounded off on the Biden initiative, outlining its impact on American workers from various backgrounds. A representative on behalf of the campaign claimed the move is stealing resources from Americans and diverting them to those who entered the country illegally.
“Thanks to Bidenomics, inflation continues to increase, job growth is slowing down, unemployment is at the highest level in two years, and more foreign-born workers are joining the labor force than native-born citizens. Yet Joe Biden continues to force hardworking, tax-paying, struggling Americans to pay for the housing, welfare, and now the healthcare of illegal immigrants,” according to Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
The American Tribune previously reported earlier this year on comments from Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who scolded the Biden administration over taxpayer dollars being allocated toward illegal immigrants. Blackburn noted there are programs for suffering Americans, such as Veterans Affairs (VA), that have a significant lack of funding.
“How much funding has the VA allocated specifically for the medical care or veterans’ benefits (including claims processing) for illegal immigrants, including but not limited to those in ICE detention facilities or those who were deported?” Blackburn wrote. “Additionally, in Fiscal Year 2021, Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) healthcare arm budgeted more than $74 million for the VA’s contractor to assist with outside referrals and medical claims processing,” she added.
She pointed out unacceptably long wait times to receive service at the VA, “Yet at the same time, veterans and their families are rewarded for their sacrifice with months- and years-long waiting times for their claims to be processed. Currently, 1,048,765 veterans are waiting for staff to process their claims. The VA claims that the average wait time for a claim to be processed is about five months; yet the agency’s own data shows that its backlog has increased and is expected to grow this year.”
Trump, in sharp contrast to Biden, has pledged to seal the border and deport the illegal immigrants in the United States. He said, making that pledge, “On day one I will seal the border and we’ll begin the largest domestic deportation operation in the history of our country. And if other countries say they won’t take them back ‘We’re not going to take them back.’ I will say that… uhhhh, yeah here they come. You’re just going to hold on, hold on to your britches, ’cause here they come. They’re coming back. Congratulations.” Watch him here:
