The State of the Union address Thursday night was Joe Biden’s chance to show the country he has the stamina and mental capacity to serve four more years. Between screaming at Republicans and insulting the Supreme Court, Biden spent most of the speech slurring his words and attempting to stoke fear in Americans. Instead of addressing the issues Americans care about, like the economy and immigration, Biden focused on Ukraine, January 6, and abortion. Polling shows that Americans aren’t particularly interested in any of those topics headed toward November.
The number one issue for most folks is the southern border. Americans all across the country have been affected by the migrant surge under Biden. It isn’t just border towns anymore; sanctuary cities are fed up, and even states like Virginia and Georgia are concerned with the border. The sheer number of undocumented migrants in the country, some with criminal records, has overwhelmed folks and caused concern among parents.
In Georgia, nursing student Laken Riley was killed allegedly by an undocumented immigrant, and her story has gripped the nation. It was a death that was entirely preventable had the administration done its job securing the border and protecting Americans. Still, sadly, Riley has become another victim of violent crime perpetrated by someone who isn’t legally supposed to be here.
Joe Biden had yet to address the killing or even say Laken Riley’s name, and during the address, Marjorie Taylor Greene called Biden out, loudly yelling, “Say her name.” Biden then appeared to take a button from under the podium with Riley’s name on it before he disastrously said: “Lincoln — Lincoln Riley. An innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. That’s right, but how many of the thousands of people being killed by legals — to her parents?”
In one off-script moment, Biden confused the slain woman with the University of Southern California football coach Lincoln Riley and then minimized the family’s loss by asking how many people have been killed by “legals.” It was an ugly moment that resulted in his own party calling him out for using the term ‘illegal.’
Most notably, Nancy Pelosi scolded Biden, saying: “Well, we usually say ‘undocumented.’ He said ‘illegal.’ I don’t think it’s a big deal. I don’t think it’s a big deal because I think his focus was on the sympathy for the family. It’s a terrible tragedy.”
Other Democrats weren’t as forgiving as Pelosi. Since the left is more concerned with political correctness than facts, numerous liberals took to social media to criticize Biden. Illinois Democratic Rep. Chuy García wrote on social media: “As a proud immigrant. I’m extremely disappointed to hear President Biden use the word ‘illegal.’”
Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. wrote, “Let me be clear: No human being is illegal,” while Illinois Rep. Delia Ramirez said, “Disappointed that [Biden] would use such dehumanizing right wing rhetoric to speak about immigrants tonight. No human being is illegal.”
Watch Pelosi scold Biden here:
Biden is likely to suffer from his faux pas, as his unscripted moment will reverberate on social media every time he makes a misstep. Usually, we would expect that from Republicans, but even Democrats are big-mad at the 82-year-olds latest verbal gaffe.
