Just days after saying that she thinks that President Joe Biden should be put on Mount Rushmore because of his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, former Speaker of the House and Congresswoman from California Nancy Pelosi said that she is not impressed by President Biden.
Particularly, Rep. Pelosi opened up to the New Yorker about her view of President Biden as a political figure and, quite vaguely, her minor role in getting President Biden to drop out of the race before the Democratic National Convention, saying that she has “never been that impressed with his political operation.”
Speaking more about her view of his operation and why she thought he should drop out, she said, “They won the White House. Bravo. But my concern was: This ain’t happening, and we have to make a decision for this to happen. The president has to make the decision for that to happen. People were calling. I never called one person.”
Pelosi has also said, regarding the claim that she made a call to get him removed, “I never called one person. I kept true to my word. Any conversation I had, it was just going to be with him. I never made one call. They said I was burning up the lines, I was talking to Chuck [Schumer]. I didn’t talk to Chuck at all.”
Rep. Pelosi, further insisting that she never made a call but admitting that there needed to be “a change” at the top of the ticket, said, “I never called one person, but people were calling me saying that there was a challenge there. So there had to be a change in the leadership of the campaign, or what would come next.”
She did not, however, elaborate on why she finds President Biden’s operation unimpressive, other than that she did not see him as being able to win in the 2024 race and wanted to get him out of the race so that it is more winnable, though whether Vice President Harris is a more likely candidate to win is somewhat doubtful.
Pelosi also spoke to the Washington Post and said that she cried over the Biden Campaign, saying that she has been friends with him for a long time and cried over what has happened, as she is friends with him. In her words: “So we are friends for a very long time. I love him so much. We pray together. I cry over it, I lose sleep over it and the rest, but that’s what evolved.”
Previously, Rep. Pelosi insisted that President Joe Biden is consequential enough that he should be chiseled onto Mt. Rushmore, saying, “He was in a good place to make whatever decision – the top of his game. Such a consequential president of the United States, a Mount Rushmore kind of president of the United States.”
Stahl further pressed Pelosi on her praise of President Biden, “Are you really saying that he belongs up there on Mount Rushmore? Lincoln and Joe Biden?” The former House Speaker answered, “Well, you got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he’s wonderful.” However, she maintained that no one should be removed from the monument, clarifying, “I don’t say take him down. But you can add Biden.”
