Patrick Mahomes won the Super Bowl on Sunday and already has brought the family to Disneyland to celebrate his second Lombardi trophy. Judging by some pictures posted to his Instagram, the Mahomes family is living it up at the most magical place on earth.
Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback who won NFL MVP awards this season, looks like he’s making the most of his time off as he posed for a picture alongside his wife, Brittany, and their two young kids in front of one of the many castles at Disneyland theme park. The caption reads, “Welcome to the happiest place on earth, Bronze and Sterling!”
According to a press release from Disneyland News, this trip is going to be jam-packed with activities for the young family. The release details the events that Patrick Mahomes will take part in while at the park, saying:
“On Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, the Super Bowl celebration goes to the next level when Mahomes stars in a colorful and high-energy cavalcade through Disneyland park in California. Guests in Disneyland park can watch the celebratory cavalcade as they travel past Sleeping Beauty Castle and down Main Street, U.S.A., at 1:30 p.m. PT.* Before the cavalcade, Mahomes will spend the morning with family and friends experiencing some of the park’s most popular attractions, interacting with beloved Disney characters and generally having the time of his life at The Happiest Place on Earth. And even more special this year, Disneyland Resort is joining in the celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary, honoring its incredible storytellers, creators and fans. The Disney100 celebration at Disneyland Resort is now in full swing and features a new attraction, two stunning new nighttime spectaculars, dazzling décor, special food and beverages, and more!”
This Disney tradition began in 1987 when quarterback Phil Simms led the New York Giants to a Super Bowl victory and proudly shouted, “I’m going to Disney World.” That phrase was quickly turned into a commercial, and the rest is history. CBS Sports described the effect that single moment had on NFL history, saying:
“Since then, it has become an annual tradition for at least one member of the winning team to do an endorsement for one or both of the Disney theme parks. Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, John Elway, and Tom Brady are all among the legends who have uttered the now famous phrase.
The only season since 1987 in which there was no commercial for Disneyland or Disney World was in 2005. No commercial ran after the New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX, and the exact reason for that remains unknown.”
Patrick Mahomes was the Super Bowl MVP in this year’s game, following a gutsy performance featuring a 25-yard run only a few minutes after a painful ankle sprain. The 27-year-old now joins a small list of great NFL quarterbacks who have two Super Bowl victories and two Super Bowl MVP Awards. His future continues to look bright and there seems to be no reason to think his family won’t be making a few more trips to Disney in the next part of his career.
