Recently, the parents of teenagers accused of engaging in flash mob robberies against Los Angeles convenience stores have turned their kids over to authorities, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. In recent years, unruly flash mob robberies have occurred with increasing frequency in California, where conservatives blame progressive soft-on-crime policing for encouraging the behavior.
According to reports, at least three parents have brought their children before authorities after a series of robberies throughout the summer. Surveillance footage of the incidents shows large groups of teens riding bikes up to convenience stores, forcing their way in and causing mayhem once inside. However, some parents are not putting up with the lawless behavior of their children.
During a recent Los Angeles Police Department meeting, Assistant Chief Blake Chow revealed that several parents turned in their kids to Los Angeles police stations late last month. Local resident Tiffany Brown applauded the actions of the parents, holding their unruly teens accountable. “They did the right thing because if you don’t stop them young, they could go pretty far with it,” she said.
Another resident, Erica, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The parents did the right thing by turning their kids in. You’ve got to teach them young about what’s right and what’s wrong.” Chow confirmed that the teen surrenders took place on September 26, 28, and 29. “On September 29th, another parent turned their child in, and that juvenile was also booked for robbery,” the assistant chief said.
According to licensed clinical psychologist Dr. David Swanson, the parents likely turned their children over to authorities out of desperation, having lost control over their reckless behavior. “When your kids are riding bikes, running into stores, stealing stuff, it’s clear you don’t have a handle on the situation,” Swanson opined. “These parents may fear that if this behavior continues, it could escalate into more serious crimes, leading to prison time.”
Over the past few years, California has garnered a reputation for being plagued with crime. As a result of such lawlessness, there has been a substantial impact on the business community. The American Tribune reported on recent comments from famous chef Andrew Gruel, who blasted the soft-on-crime policies, vowing never to open another restaurant in California.
“At this point, it’s criminal on behalf of the DA and officials who advocate for this soft-on-crime insanity. There is no nuance to this; it’s intentional. How many thousands of cases do we need to see to know it leads to more violence? Everyone, left, right, and center, can see this. The goal is to instill fear and destroy communities,” Gruel wrote on X.
He added during an appearance on Fox News, “I will not open another business in California until they actually fix things on a go-forward basis.” He continued, “Allowing all of these crimes has really ripped apart the social fabric that we know of as the foundation of businesses. And then businesses have had to suffer because of all the crime in their surrounding communities. Business goes down. The regulations have piled up.”
