In a significant shock, the Trump Department of Justice has abruptly fired Maurene Comey, the daughter of the former FBI Director James Comey, who is still a controversial figure. Maurene Comey had been assigned to the fraught Epstein case as well as the trial of disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
For context, Comey reacted poorly to the decision to let her go and posted a lengthy and melodramatic statement, which CNN reprinted. However, prominent conservatives took to social media to celebrate the decision to fire the federal prosecutor.
In any case, Charlike Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, took to X on July 16, 2025, to announce the decision. He said, “BREAKING: Pam Bondi has fired Maurene Comey, daughter of James Comey, from her job as a prosecutor in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, per Politico. She worked on the prosecutions of Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein, and Sean “Diddy” Combs.”
Melting down after Pam Bondi threw her out, Maurene Comey wrote a lengthy letter to her coworkers. She began, “Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the Office. I was summarily fired via memo from Main Justice that did not give a reason for my termination,” adding, “Every person lucky enough to work in this office constantly hears four words to describe our ethos: Without Fear or Favor.”
Choosing to use the opportunity to score cheap political points, Comey doubled down on her theatrical rhetoric. The letter continued, “Do the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons without fear of retribution and without favor to the powerful.”
Still not done, the controversial former prosecutor continued, “For the majority of my nearly ten years in SDNY, fear was never really conceivable. We don’t fear bad press; we have the luxury of exceptional security keeping us physically safe; and, so long as we did our work with integrity, we would get to keep serving the public in this office.”
Painting a biased picture of her actions in office, she described how, “Our focus was really on acting “without favor.” That is, making sure people with access, money, and power were not treated differently than anyone else; and making sure this office remained separate from politics and focused only on the facts and the law.”

Making a vague criticism of the Trump administration, Comey continued her screed. She complained, “But we have entered a new phase where ‘without fear’ may be the challenge. If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain.”
Concluding her letter by slamming Trump, the entitled former prosecutor stated, “Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought. Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power. Of commitment to seek justice for victims. Of dedication to truth above all else. It has been an honor to fight for those principles by your side.”
