Vice President JD Vance just showed that he’s not a man that plays around when someone brings his wife and children into political mudslinging, taking aim at Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, warning the man to stop mentioning second lady Usha Vance into his political attacks and to just focus on the issues.
Vance, speaking at a metro Detroit rally that was organized by super PAC MAGA Inc., which is closely aligned with President Donald Trump, accused El-Sayed of stepping way over the line by targeting his wife in a recent post published on social media, taking a play out of his boss’s playbook by addressing the matter head-on.
“I actually think that the people of Michigan think it’s kind of weird when you talk about another guy’s wife,” Vance went on to say. “I think the people of Michigan would like you to talk about the public policy ideas …” he said, going on to attack El-Sayed for supporting policies that undercut the wages of Michigan autoworkers.
“I think the people of Michigan would like you to talk about how you’re going to protect auto workers when you’re supporting every single policy that has undercut the wages and jobs of Michigan auto workers your entire life in public service,” he continued. It was at this point in the speech that Vance went all out on El-Sayed and his comments about the second lady, according to Trending Politics News.
“But whatever you want to talk about, Abdul, keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth because she’s way out of your league,” the vice president said with a no-nonsense tone of voice. The battle between the two men started when El-Sayed responded to Vance’s comments concerning Sharia law, writing, “do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no?”
Critics ripped into the Michigan Democrat for taking a shot at Usha Vance’s Indian heritage. El-Sayed attempted to offer an explanation for his dreadful comments, saying it was about Vance’s broader statements concerning immigration and American identity, stating the vice president seemingly suggested that some people are more American than others based on the length of time their families have called the U.S. their home.
Ryan Girdusky, a conservative commentator, took an opportunity to dismantle the explanation. “If you’re a rural White American living in Michigan, just remember El-Sayed believes you’re a racist,” Girdusky went on to say in his response. Vance wasn’t done with the Democratic Senate candidate yet. He also accused El-Sayed of supporting policies that would negatively impact American workers.

“We’re here to talk about protecting Michigan truck drivers, but also protecting the safety of every single person who drives on the road with a semi truck, which is all of us,” Vance explained. “Here’s the crazy thing. Just a few years ago, Abdul El-Sayed said that we need to make sure that illegal aliens have driver’s licenses in this country. He would love to undercut the wages of American truckers.”
In 2018, El-Sayed said that he supported allowing illegal aliens to be granted standard driver’s licenses, though he did not specifically call for giving them commercial driver’s licenses that are required to operate long-haul trucks. The vice president also said El-Sayed represents a “terrible evil,” which led to the Michigan Democrat firing back with another response.
“Evil is ripping healthcare away from working people in exchange for tax breaks for billionaires. Evil is making people pay more for groceries and gas while pushing for trade wars and actual war. Evil is dividing people for your own gain. Evil is selling out your morals for a little bit of power,” El-Sayed stated in his reply.
“Michigan is better than being lectured to by sock puppets from Ohio and Florida. We understand what’s at stake, and Michiganders will show you at the ballot box this November when we send Mike Rogers packing,” he added. El-Sayed, who won the Michigan Democratic Party primary race for the Senate, will now take on Republican Mike Rogers in the general election.
