In this later stage of his career, Mark Wahlberg is becoming increasingly more open about his life at home with his wife and kids. Now, Wahlberg spoke in an interview where he hilariously discusses the way that his kids use his fame and notoriety when it suits them while still calling the star actor “cringe” when they are within the confines of their new home.
This hilarious anecdote is another in a long line of recent interviews in which the Hollywood megastar has opened up about life with his family after moving them away from California to start a better chapter in their lives. Along with Rhea Durham, Mark is doing his best to navigate parenting the couple’s four children in their new Nevada home.
While hyping up his new movie “The Family Plan,” Wahlberg was asked the question that millions of Americans wonder every day. How do the kids of superstars feel about their parent’s accomplishments? Well, Wahlberg says, “I think we’re cool when it’s convenient, getting something done for them and meeting somebody they want to meet.”
Wahlberg says this serves as a great juxtaposition to his life in the spotlight, getting to go home to kids who don’t see him as much more than a father they love. He said, “But, you know, it’s fun for us, because we do live this kind of exciting life of pretend, making movies. We go home, and we’re just boring parents again.”
Wahlberg attributed this to his kids being young and not quite grasping the massive celebrity that their father really is. On the other hand, it makes him feel like a normal parent, which he surely appreciates. He continued, “I think all parents go through the same thing. Their kids think they’re out of touch, they don’t know what’s going on.”
He added the normal plight that parents feel, saying that his kids don’t always understand that their problems were things that Mark and their mother, Rhea, also went through. They have a well of knowledge sitting in the same house they live in but choose not to use it.
Wahlberg said, “They don’t realize we’ve been through all these things, and we’re trying to pass that experience and knowledge onto our kids to make their lives a little bit easier and help them avoid making some of the mistakes we’ve made.”
The film “The Family Plan” stars Mark Wahlberg. A film synopsis says, “Dan Morgan is many things: a devoted husband, a loving father, a celebrated car salesman. He’s also a former assassin. And when his past catches up to his present, he’s forced to take his unsuspecting family on a road trip unlike any other.”
Mark Wahlberg is showing his true colors as a parent who cares and is doing his best to raise young men and women who can better our country when they come of age to do so. As he continues to open up about his experiences as a parent, Wahlberg is endearing himself to far more fans than he could ever realize.
