Recently, a former high-ranking California Democrat announced she would be joining the Republican Party and supporting former President Donald Trump. Gloria Romero previously led the Democratic Majority in California’s State Senate for several years in the 2000s. However, she released a statement last week explaining her decision to change her political affiliation.
“Today, I am leaving the Democratic Party,” Romero said, noting her continual efforts to speak out and affect change within the party. “I stayed for as long as I could. I tried reforms, I spoke out, I voted.” Illustrating how she reached a breaking point with the Democratic Party, Romero added, “Today, I say goodbye, adios, I’ve had enough.”
Romero outlined how she is just one of many “lifelong” Democrats who have grown tired of the party’s antics. She further asserts that the Latino demographic, particularly viewed as a loyal voting block for the left, is growing increasingly tired of the Democratic Party. “I am now another near lifelong Democrat who is joining the growing number of people — including key groups, Latinos — who are leaving the Democratic Party.”
To top things off, Romero stated that she would be casting her vote for former President Donald Trump this fall. “I will vote for Donald Trump this fall,” she said. Romero has praised Trump and his Make America Great Again agenda for leading the Republican Party into becoming the “champion of the working people,” a title once assigned to the Democratic Party.
Romero noted several other issues that motivated her change in party affiliation, such as what she described as “rigged primaries” where Democrats “eradicated” 14 million votes to have their “preferred candidate”, Vice President Kamala Harris, leading the ticket in November. Harris’s installation as the party’s nominee has drawn substantial criticism for being subversive to democracy and the interests of voters.
The former Democrat also blasted the left’s fixation with radical gender ideology, which she described as “terrifying” while noting that, as a feminist, she is “condemned for saying that I can define a woman.” She said, “This is the so-called party of women which has eradicated Title IX protections for sports equity for women.”
Romero addressed the contentious topic of abortion, she said “while I am pro-choice, I will not support a party that advocates for abortion to full term. I am a mother and refuse to call myself a ‘birthing person.’” She further criticized the Democratic Party on its stance toward immigration noting, that while she supports opportunities for legal immigration, Democrats make a “mockery of citizenship and the throwing open of our southern border by the ineffective Border Czar and the inept Biden.”
The new member of the Republican Party called out several other stances the Democratic Party maintains, such as persistent inflation, attacks on free speech, and the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and more. She also applauded the Republican platform of global peace, adding, “The Republican Party has become the party of peace while the Democrats have marched towards endless war.”
Ultimately, Romero concluded that the Democratic Party is not what it once was. “This is not the Democratic Party that I once championed, I don’t recognize it anymore and I cannot continue,” she said. Romeo’s decision to join Republicans is a major blow to the left as it shows the radical far-left drift is creating division within its ranks.
