One Million Moms Moves to Boycott “Blasphemous” Netflix Movie

Actress and director Greta Gerwig of Barbie movie fame, was recently tapped by streaming giant Netflix to make a series of films based on Christian author C.S. Lewis’ popular Chronicles of Narnia series, beginning with the first entry, The Magician’s Nephew, which hasn’t had a recent on screen adaption in quite some time. Immediately, folks began worrying that Gerwig would move the very clear and purposeful allegorical tale for the Christian faith away from its spiritual roots.

Now that the first trailer has dropped and it has been confirmed that legendary actress Meryl Streep would be voicing the lion Aslan, who is actually Jesus Christ in the story — and a male — it seems those fears have been given legitimate substance. And one conservative group isn’t going to put up with it. One Million Moms has issued a warning about the film along with a petition for parents to sign stating they would not see the movie nor support it.

“Greta Gerwig wrote and directed Netflix’s new adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia, titled Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. This is not a movie Christians want to see,” the warning from the organization opened. “This film is the first entry in a new series, adapting the sixth published but first chronological novel in the series. Greg Peters, Chief Executive for Netflix, promised that Gerwig’s version of the stories will be ‘bigger and bolder’ than anyone could expect,” the article continued.

Gerwig’s take on the novel will receive a wide theatrical release on February 12, 2027, with sneak previews starting on February 10, according to the OMM article. After its theatrical window closes, the movie will immediately start streaming on Netflix on April 2, 2027. One Million Moms stated that their belief that Gerwig has hijacked the classic fantasy series and is using it to push a leftist agenda.

“In the original Chronicles of Narnia, Aslan was bold, brave, and revered for his great strength, authority, and sacrifice,” the article said, going on to point out that the character symbolizes Jesus, quoting Lewis himself, who said, “I don’t say, let us represent Christ as Aslan. I say, supposing there was a world like Narnia, and supposing like ours, it needed redemption, let us imagine what sort of Incarnation and Passion and Resurrection Christ would have there.”

“The new woke Narnia film not only gender-swaps Aslan with a female voice but also features cinematic and promo posters advertising this bold new, multicolored Aslan, which bears a striking resemblance to David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ a bisexual rock star who mocked Christ and promoted himself as a messianic figure,” OMM wrote.

The film is set in postwar 1950s London, with Gerwig going on to describe the movie as a “rock opera” inspired by British rock and roll legends such as David Bowie. She also managed to secure the use of Led Zeppelin’s hit song, “Stairway to Heaven” for the trailer, stating that the film is also an exploration of spiritual discovery, enlightenment, and possibility of someone losing their way.

The organization then urged readers to sign its petition urging Netflix to cancel the film or make changes to it in order to honor Lewis’ original design and intent for Aslan as a Christ-like figure and protector, rather than a gender-swapped rock star wannabe. As of this writing, the petition has 13,700 signatures and is making its way across Christian sites and social media accounts.
