U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang, an Obama appointee, has repeatedly clashed with the administration, notably blocking Trump’s 2017 travel ban, citing anti-Muslim bias from campaign rhetoric. This year, he attempted to halt Trump’s USAID restructuring, but now he faces potential impeachment for his unfair rulings, which have collectively become a symbol of judicial overreach.
For reference, that potential impeachment is coming because, recently, Rep. Andy Ogles proposed impeaching Chuang, prompting the New York City Bar Association to defend judicial independence. Now presiding over John Bolton’s 18-count indictment for mishandling classified material, Chuang’s rulings continue to shape the national landscape.
Chuang’s ridiculous rulings have long been a gadfly for President Trump. One of the worst was his striking down of Trump’s 2017 travel ban. Whining about the “Muslim ban” situation in 2017, claiming the President’s campaign trail remarks made the policy invalid in a bizarre ruling, Judge Theodore Chuang wrote, “Simply because a decisionmaker made the statements during a campaign does not wipe them from the ‘reasonable memory’ of a ‘reasonable observer.’”
In any case, he is now facing calls for impeachment and is being protected by the Deep State bureaucratic and managerial class apparatus. For example, in a desperate attempt to protect the controversial judge from attempts to hold him accountable for this most recent row, the New York City Bar Association complained, “Efforts to impeach judges over ideological disagreements pose a grave threat to judicial independence.”
Enraged with that move and others like it, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has stepped up to hold the controversial, Obama-appointed judge accountable. Reacting to the absurd USAID ruling, he posted, “An Obama appointee and lifelong Democrat who blocked Trump’s travel ban in 2017. This judge literally peddled critical race theory as editor of the Harvard Law Review. Now he’s trying to save USAID, which gives money to terrorist and radical LGBTQ+ propaganda. Impeach him!”
Adding to the last post, he declared, “🚨ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT🚨I have drafted new articles against activist Judge Theodore Chuang,” along with a detailed series of screenshots outlining the case and explaining the case for impeachment.
In another post, Ogles broke down the case in more common language, so his readers could understand that the case for impeachment is very valid. “Federal Judge Theodore Chuang—a career Democrat operative—is obstructing President Trump and protecting USAID’s reckless spending. Congress must hold him accountable. Here’s the case for impeachment,” he began.

Building on this claim in the body of the post, he noted, “Let’s be clear: unelected district judges have zero constitutional authority to dictate terms to a duly elected President on executive actions. Chuang’s ruling is a blatant power grab—plain and simple.”
Providing a worrying insight into Chuang’s professional history, the Republican Representative stated, “No surprise here. Judge Chuang’s history is steeped in Democratic activism. From 1992-1994, as editor of the Harvard Law Review, he championed articles pushing Critical Race Theory, affirmative action, and a Marxist spin on America’s foundations.”
Still not done, he pointed out the judge’s political bias. “In 2008, Chuang served on the Steering Committee for Obama’s Maryland Asian Pacific American Coalition, rallying fundraisers and connecting Democrat mega-donors. He was also a delegate at the 2002 Massachusetts Democratic Convention. This isn’t a judge—it’s a partisan resume,” the strident conservative stated.
According to Ogles, the controversial judge has a long history of defying the president. “Chuang’s bias didn’t stop at the bench. In 2017, he struck down Trump’s travel ban, unprofessionally leaning on Trump’s tweets to misconstrue the policy—a flimsy tactic echoed by activist Amir Ali at the Supreme Court,” the congressman declared.
While it remains to be seen if an impeachment of Cheung is at all successful, this is a positive indication in that it shows the normally do-nothing GOP is finally starting to learn how to push back against the radical left and its administrative agents.
Judge Boasberg could also face impeachment, as Rep. Andy Biggs explained here:
