In something of an upsetting and certainly unpleasant back and forth social media spat between President Donald Trump and former Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk, the two men fought in increasingly personal and vituperative terms over whether the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which would mainly cut taxes and fund deportations, is wasteful and needs to be trimmed down.
Things escalated so much that Elon not only accused President Trump of being an Epstein client, but called for him to be impeached and replaced by Vice President JD Vance, as if Vance would somehow be able to wrangle the congressional RINOs into passing a better tax cuts and deportations bill.
Elon’s call for impeachment came in response to a post from Ian Miles Cheong, a Malaysian who routinely comments on American politics, in which Cheong said, “President vs Elon. Who wins? My money’s on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him.” Elon, in response, said, “Yes.”
Cheong, in his post, included a screenshot of two tweets from Elon in which the former DOGE head accused Trump of being an Epstein client. In the first post in that ridiculous thread, Elon said, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Then, in a second post, Elon said, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
For reference, Trump did know Epstein when Epstein lived in Miami and was temporarily a member at the Mar-a-Lago club. Further, Trump took two domestic flights between Miami and New York with Epstein. However, those flights were with Trump’s family members when Trump’s plane was being repaired, and Trump kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago when he caught Epstein being creepy with teenage staff members.
Elon’s main complaint with the bill, which seems all out of proportion in relation to his attacks on President Trump, is that it doesn’t cut spending as much as he would like or reign in the deficit enough, though, as Stephen Miller noted, it does cut well over a trillion dollars in wasteful federal spending.
To support his point on the debt issue being a ticking time bomb, Elon shared a video of himself saying that potential insolvency is the biggest issue facing America right now. In that video, the former DOGE head said, “If the country goes insolvent, if all the money is just spent on paying interest on debt, there’s no money left for anything.”

Continuing, he then added that a disastrous bankruptcy would be on the horizon in such a scenario, saying, “A country is no different from a person. Country overspends, country goes bankrupt, same as a person who overspends goes bankrupt. So it’s not optional to solve these things. It’s essential.”
Watch him here:
Elon, for his part, has insisted that EV subsidies, or really the lack thereof, are not the reason he is upset with the bill. In one tweet, for example, he said, “Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill. In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this! Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way.”
