A newlywed bride was killed and her husband injured near Charleson, South Carolina on Friday evening. Their golf car, which was street legal and had the lights turned on, was slammed into by a woman driving under the influence and going over twice the speed limit.
The newlywed bride killed was 34-year-old Samantha Miller, a woman from Charlotte, North Carolina. She had recently been married when she was killed in the wreckage, according to Folly Beach Public Safety Department Director Andrew Gilreath.
The local authorities said that the bride was killed and the groom injured by Jamie Lee Komoroski, a 25-year-old going 65 miles per hour on the 25 miles per hour island, Folly Beach, at around 10 pm on Friday. She was driving under the influence at the time of the accident.
According to the authorities, three others on the golf cart (including Miller’s husband, Aric) were injured by Komoroski.
Komoroski is charged with reckless vehicular homicide and three counts of driving under the influence causing death. She faces up to 25 years in prison for each of those three DUI counts. She remains in the Charleston County jail without bond.
The New York Post, commenting on Komoroski’s background and her alcohol-filled social media feed, which probably won’t help her in court, reported:
The drunk driver who killed a newlywed bride and severely injured the groom just hours after their wedding was dressed as a Bud Light bottle at a Halloween party.
Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, posted a photo of herself in 2018 while dressed as “Bud Lightyear” — a play on the classic “Toy Story” character — in tight shorts, crop top and Bud Light boxes wrapped around her legs and ankles.
“To infinity and beerond,” the caption reads, in reference to Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase, “To infinity and beyond.”
The post is one of several on Komoroski’s Instagram that make references to alcohol, including her latest post just one week ago where she is pictured on the beach in a bikini with the caption: “Did somebody say tequila?”
A GoFundMe created for the couple by Arnette Hutchinson, the mother of the groom, said:
Hi, my name is Annette Hutchinson, I am the mother of Aric Hutchinson, the groom. Aric lost the love of his life when my new daughter-in-law Samantha “Sam” Hutchinson was tragically killed by a drunk driver moments after the picture above while leaving her wedding reception on April 28th in Folly Beach, South Carolina. My son is now in critical condition.
My son-in-law Benjamin Garrett and grandson Brogan Garrett from Morgan, Utah were escorting the couple from the reception in a golf cart when they were struck from behind by a drunk driver traveling 65 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. The golf cart was thrown over 100 yards and rolled several times.
Sam died from her injuries. Aric is in serious condition and has had one of two reconstruction surgeries, numerous broken bones, and a brain injury, he will have a long recovery. Ben and Brogan were also injured, Ben seriously.
I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows. Aric has lost the love of his life.
This fundraiser will help pay for Sam’s burial and medical costs for Aric and his family.
The couple made their home in both the groom’s home state of Utah and the state of South Carolina. The bride is from North Carolina.
The groom graduated from Bonneville High School in South Ogden, Utah and played college football for Snow College and Utah Tech.
