Plenty of people struggle with weight loss, and North Carolina resident Taylor Robertson, 27, was no different before finding inspiration in the words of a retired Navy SEAL.
Robertson, who now would like to share his success story to inspire others to make a change as well, managed to lose over 100 pounds in less than a year en route to turning his obese body into one that looks the part of a man inspired by the special forces.
He spoke to Fox News Digital, giving his most impactful tips on dieting and exercise along with advice for those who want to make a similar change. First on his list of habits to kick? Drinking alcohol.
“I drank for probably six years straight.”
Robertson said that he would drink an entire bottle of liquor each day, a habit that hurt his body and made him unruly. With the help of Fiancée, Robertson kicked the habit and quickly shed his first 30 pounds.
The next change, one which helped him lose another 100 pounds, was deciding to only eat one meal a day, a large serving of chicken and rice. He says that his personality aided him in this, as he strives to do everything at 100%, even when that may hurt him.
“When I was drinking, I took that to the extreme. I want to change my life, and I took that to the extreme as well. So I started running.”
In the beginning, running didn’t come easy, but now Robertson runs 5k races often. He took up this passion for running due to popular influencer and former Navy Seal David Goggins. Goggins followed a similar path, starting at 300 pounds and losing weight to eventually become one of the best endurance athletes in the world. He says that he doesn’t believe in the popular fitness motivation phrases and trends, but would rather get out and do something hard every day, striving for incremental progress.
We believe that we are far from our perfect selves. Truth be told, you are only a few rough edges away. Once you polish off those edges, the masterpiece is unveiled. You must believe that you are a work of art in order to be able to imagine it and therefore create it! pic.twitter.com/sa9dNtFOF4

“If you sit there and have that mentality of ‘triple down every day’ at what you’re good at, you will never grow.”
Goggins also wrote in his book Can’t Hurt Me about the importance of blocking out the limits that others may put on you:
“They tell you on Wednesday you’ll start getting tired. They’ve been saying this for seventy years! That gets in your hearts. So you start to believe what another man told you. Not what you feel. So you get to Wednesday and think “I must be tired.” Not what’s in your head! Well, I didn’t believe shit. I said: “Don’t feel what another man told you. Feel what YOU feel. Don’t let their reality be your reality.”
“Life is one big mind game. But usually you’re just playing against yourself.”
So, it was in this trend that Robertson gave his best advice to anyone who wanted to follow on a similar path to better health, “just get started.”
“And if it’s too hard to walk, ride a bike. If it’s too hard to ride a bike, I don’t know, twiddle your thumbs, but do it so much you can’t do it anymore.”
