Sam Brinton, the non-binary Biden Department of Energy official, was just arrested in Maryland, with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Police force saying that he was arrested for luggage theft. This is the third such arrest Brinton faces for luggage theft.
In a statement to Fox News Digita, the MWAA spokesperson, James Johnson, explained what Brinton was arrested for, the warrant that gave them the authority to arrest Brinton, and when the alleged luggage theft occurred, saying, “Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police executed a search warrant May 17 in Montgomery County, Maryland, in connection with allegations of stolen property in luggage from Reagan National Airport that was brought to the department’s attention in February 2023.”
Continuing, Johnson added, “With the assistance of Montgomery County Police, Samuel Otis Brinton, age 35, of Rockville, Maryland, was taken into custody Wednesday pending charges of Grand Larceny.”
A spokesperson for the Montgomery County Police spoke about the situation as well, telling Fox News Digital that the MWAA police force was in charge of the arrest, but the Montgomery County Police force assisted. That spokesperson, Sheira Goff, said, “Montgomery County Police assisted in the arrest of Sam Brinton. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police are lead on this.”
Goff added a few details that the MWAA police did not, such as when and where Brinton was arrested, saying, “Brinton was arrested at approximately 10 p.m. last night in their home on College Parkway. They are being held in the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on a no-bond status as they await an extradition hearing. That’s all of the information we have on our end.”
The theft Brinton is accused of occurred in 2018, when Brinton allegedly stole a suitcase from Tanzanian-American fashion designer Asyakhamsin in Ronald Reagan International Airport.
Brinton has so far dodged serving any jail time for the alleged luggage thefts, with judges ruling jail time was unnecessary for Brinton in both of the other cases of luggage theft in which he was charged after he pleaded guilty in both cases. In one case from October of 2022, Brinton was charged with stealing luggage in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on September 16th of that year. The stolen luggage as worth $2,325 in that case.
In a second case, Brinton was charged in December of 2022 by Las Vegas prosecutors with grand larceny. Brinton was accused of stealing a suitcase and the items in it, worth a total of $3,670, from Harry Reid International Airport.
Brinton, who claims to be non-binary and gender-fluid, was appointed to the Department of Energy as the person in charge of overseeing nuclear waste policy. Brinton was fired from that position as evidence of luggage theft emerged. Britnon is now out on bond for the alleged 2018 theft, and it remains to be seen if this judge rules that jail time is necessary.
