Former CNN host Don Lemon recently sparred with former professional soccer player turned TikTok influencer Will John over Democratic speculation about Elon Musk’s influence in the incoming Trump administration. Some on the left have argued that Musk will have an outsized influence in the federal government, shaping policies and legislation to his liking.
“Who is the real president-elect, you think?” Lemon asked John while conducting street interviews in New York City. The TikToker immediately appeared confused by Lemon’s question, which has an obvious answer to many. “Donald Trump won, I believe,” John answered. Notably, the former soccer player has an impressive audience of his own with approximately one million YouTube subscribers and more than 300,000 TikTok followers.
Expounding on his question, Lemon continued, “Democratic lawmakers in Washington are calling Elon Musk ‘President Musk’ now, and they’re saying Donald Trump is the vice president or the head of communication…” Expressing his disagreement with Lemon, John interjected, “What? What? What — wait a second, no. No one said that,” John interrupted.
“Really? Have you not watched or pay attention to the news?” Lemon fired back. “Absolutely not. I’m paying attention to what I’m doing during my day, so I can try and get a better life and get ahead,” John said, slamming the mainstream media, which has seen it ratings tank in the aftermath of the election. “Keep going,” Lemon quipped as John read off various outlets which he claims are not to be trusted.
“We don’t trust any of these. The common man doesn’t trust any of this,” John emphasized, demonstrating a pervasive sentiment that many Americans hold. “I don’t trust any of these. I don’t trust any of them… We’re the common man. We don’t trust any of these. No one trusts the government. No one trusts the common news,” he said.
Continuing to build on this point, he said, “No one trusts the common news. We don’t trust any of that anymore. Independent news, we are the ones that own the news now. People trust me. They don’t trust MSNBC because I care, and I’m actually one of them.” Following this point from John, Lemon conceded, “I can’t disagree with you.”

The American Tribune reported on other recent comments from Lemon, where he reacted to Trump being selected as Time Person of the Year to the dismay of liberals. “Now, if they wanted to make someone Person of the Year, they would have made someone who…My God, my God …. I’m sure he loves this, right? If they want to make someone Person of the Year, I don’t know they could have done it to with any person, people that they could have done to someone who actually stood for democracy, who stands for democracy in the country,” the former CNN personality said.
“Now you think about what encompasses Person of the Year. Just because you are elected President of the United States does not mean that you should be Person of the Year,” Lemon continued, before calling out Time. “What Time Magazine? What are you doing? Let me ask you, Time Magazine. What do you say to the women who, I guess, still read Time magazine.”
