As the scandal surrounding New York Attorney General Letitia James and her alleged 25-year-long mortgage fraud activities explodes, the Trump Administration, via a spokesperson, hilariously mocked the woke NY AG who, just months ago, was persecuting Trump via lawfare rooted in ridiculous claims about a loan he took, and repaid in full.
For reference, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte requested that charges be brought against NY AG James in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche. Beginning it, he wrote, “Pursuant to my authority as Director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (“U.S. Federal Housing” or “FHFA”), I am referring the matter below. As regulator of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks, we take very seriously allegations of mortgage fraud or other criminal activity. Such misconduct jeopardizes the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the security and stability of the U.S. mortgage market.”
Later, Director Pulte gave a few examples of NY AG James’s allegedly illegal behavior, saying, “Based on media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms. This has potentially included 1) falsifying residence status for a Norfolk, Virginia-based home in order to secure a lower mortgage rate and 2) misrepresenting property descriptions to meet stringent requirements for government backed loans and government assistance.”
That has turned, in part, into a renewal of the battle over NY AG James’s civil fraud case against then-former President Trump and the Trump Organization for allegedly inflating the values of owned properties so that it could obtain better terms on its loans, insurance, and tax deductions. She won in the woke New York court system, which turned into a $454 million judgment against Trump in 2024.
Dredging that case back up to attack the Trump Administration for the charges against James, a spokesperson for her office told Fox Digital in a statement on Thursday, April 17, that “multiple times during the attorney general’s trial against President Trump and the Trump Organization for years of financial fraud, President Trump’s attorneys repeatedly made the argument that the attorney general’s lawsuit was politically motivated.”
Continuing in that statement to Fox News Digital, the spokesperson claimed, “Every single time, the judge rejected that argument and even sanctioned the attorneys for making it. Attorney General James won her lawsuit, and the judgment against President Trump now exceeds half a billion dollars.”
Firing back at James and her office in a series of comments to Newsmax on Wednesday, April 16, White House spokesman Harrison Fields use NY AG James’s infamous “no one is above the law” line against her, using it to show her hypocrisy and the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

Beginning, Fields noted that James had acted ridiculously in throwing stones while in a glass home, saying, “With the Democratic Party, they love to throw stones in glass homes when they realize that they’re committing the crimes that they’re actually trying to go against.”
Continuing, Fields used the “no one is above the law” line, saying, “So, this is now a criminal referral that the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi will have to look at. The allegations from the FHFA are very serious. We’re going to look at them, and no one is above the law.”
Concluding, Fields then said, “And Tish James, she’d like to say that about the president, but she should look in the mirror and realize that if you have skeletons in your closets about abusing the law and doing illegal things, maybe you shouldn’t be purveying around like some justice queen, because you’re not.”
